Head & Shoulders above other survival firestarters
The media could not be loaded. Amid a litany of other survival-type fire building products out there, this one stands head and shoulders above. I have tried them all, but more recently began looking for a product that would really easily take sparks from (specifically) ANY fire steel, and create actual usable fire with practically no effort. THIS IS THE ONEThe closest option that ALMOST makes that grade is CHAR CLOTH. So let's compare the two based on my experience.Char cloth positives: Burns a long time - catches sparks and lights efficiently - virtually weightless - transfer your fire from one place to the next if done properly and with extreme care (and if you have a lot of char cloth)Char cloth negatives: It is extremely fragile - won't work when wet - if damaged or broken up, becomes unusable - only holds a burning ember, doesn't actually produce flame on its own - requires secondary tool to light (fire steel or other spark-caster)Uberleben Tinderwick negatives: is heavier than char cloth (though still very low profile, and still virtually weightless) - requires secondary tool to light (fire steel or other spark-caster) - **personal negative** I already carry a pocket bellows, so the bellows on this rope becomes redundant and is nothing but extra weight (I will cut way down and leave it on as a slide-over extinguisher [which is its secondary function])Uberleben Tinderwick positives: Will burn a LONG time, and if used properly will make a huge amount of fires over the lifespan of just one wick - very lightweight - WATERPROOF - works precisely as advertised - replacement wicks available, & are very affordable - will last forever in a survival kit - instant fire come whatever apocalypse you're preparing for - overall length long enough to be square knotted on both ends so you won't lose the bellows - comes with an adonized aluminum bellows for promoting fire growth in early stages - forget transferring your fire. Just make a new one effortlessly!CONCLUSION:This is a brilliant piece of Effortless Instant Fire. Weightless, Waterproof, Affordable, Infinity Shelf Life, Long-Burning. This is the survival fire preparedness item you want. I would give a hundred out of a hundred stars if that was an option. It is literally a PERFECT option for making fire with fire-steel or flint. Works like a charm.
Tried this over a three day camping venture this weekend, and this is all I used. I started it with a bic lighter prior to leaving just to get an initial char, but used only this and a ferro rod all weekend for about 8-9 fires. It takes a spark immediately, stays lit, and goes out immediately with the bellow over it. Being able to quickly light this and leave it under a tinder pile while building the fire was similar to using fatwood or spartan fire, only without the additional processing. Definitely a win in my book!

Easy to use!
This is super easy to use! It lights very well and stays burning. I use it to light my wood stove in my tent every night and it's so easy! I use a Ferro rod and my pocket knife blade to light this wick, then use the wick to start the tinder burning. Works flawlessly and it's easy! Did I mention how easy it is?? Get this, and get the refill wicks. You'll light hundreds of fires without frustration. Just make sure to protect the flame from too much wind. I suggest placing it right by your tinder when you light it to prevent accidentally putting the fire out.

Why I paid $14 for this
I'm willing to pay more for a product that is a great idea and works well. The first Tindar I received didn't arrive with the aluminum collar that slides along the hemp rope. I returned it and a couple of days later, I got another. The photo of the scratched up case is included. So far, not impressed with the product or the company.I took the Tindar, slid the tube back about 5 mm from the end of the rope, frayed the rope very much, held the fray in my striker hand (UNDER the ferro rod), and ran the striker on top of the rod. It took a few tries to get a spark to fall on the frayed rope, but once it did, the rope ignited easily. With practice, ignition got easier. The rope and the collar are genius. When the fire is lit, slide the collar to the end of the rope and you're done, the flame is extinguished. It's so simple and very effective.Maybe you would have thought of using rope as tinder. Maybe even the metal collar to extinguish the flame, but you didn't produce the item and market it. Uberleben did and they deserve credit for it!I would have given the product 5 stars if the order shipped correctly in the first place. Getting a scratched up, partially painted box with the second Tindar was an insult.

Best of its kind
This is overpriced, but truly functional and superior to its commercial competitors and most home made versions—I’ve directly compared. The cordage lights more easily and lasts longer. The short tube does a great job of flame control and extinguishing, but can get hot for an extended burn-still, its length is good for fitting in a tin or small pouch such as can be fitted to an ESEE knife sheath. Probably the nicest thing about this unit is the ease by which you can move it between fires, or different points within a single fire.I now have at least six of these spread between various kits and other than for use to compare, all the alternatives will never see use again.

Works great
Pull the twine out from the metal sleeve, hit it with a spark and it catches right away - instant match. Push the sleeve forward to snuff it out. Very handy when you need to light moe than one thing at camp or when a sparker won't do the job (lighting a lamp as an example). Unlike the description mine came in a metal tin which I prefer as it'll do a better job keeping it dry and no worries about putting it away and not having it completely snuffed out.

Over priced Item/Poor Quality Tin
Completely overpriced item - Just one slow wick with one stick bellows inside a cheesy, flimsy, half-open tin that was crushed in transit... I found a much better product on Amazon for the same price with slow wick, bellows + ferro rod, striker, waterproof matches, fire plug tinder, and a magnifying burning lens all packed inside a far stronger, more secure tin from Borderland Bushcraft.
