Palm Sugar 17.6oz

I bought this with the tamicon tamarind paste and the Thai whole dried chile, as Amazon recommended. I was my first time using Palm sugar and it comes in a hard round disc. I couldn't figure how to cut off what I needed for the recipe finally after some researching I used a microplane grater. I was so happy with taste of my pad Thai!

Pretty good stuff. The quality is not really on par with what I would buy in Thailand, but this is one of the best I can find online.

Great for making pad thai (or any other dish) at home. I just slice some of this off with a knife and it's ready to go. It dissolves easily into recipes. It's not as sweet as some other sugars, which makes it perfect for some of the dishes I cook.

Too hard when received it.

Couldn't find this in the story for my favorite Thai recipes. It is VERY hard - people on here suggested a hammer, but that didn't work for me at all. I found slowly working/cracking it with a chef's knife worked best and letting it crumble/break. Hammering just compressed it more. Packaging was questionable...

This "sugar" was the consistency of a brick. I couldn't get it to break up at all. I tried heat, and I tried liquids, but it wouldn't break up or melt down. I ended up throwing it away and using brown sugar as a substitute.

I like it. It makes the curry dish more tasty. Because it is very hard, you need a simple hand-held grater to shred. Knifes won't work.

The product is too hard to even think about using.
