The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood And Ash Series)

Enjoyable but can understand the negative reviews.
Ok, I've read all three books, and I can say I enjoyed them. The storyline is fascinating, and I enjoy the character development. I like that it's an entirely different world, and I can see a lot of thought has gone into this world. That being said, there are flaws. The author, although she is a woman, seems to mansplain everything again and again. The inner thoughts of poppy are the same constantly throughout the three books. I understand for the first book but not the 2nd and 3rd. It's not needed. A lot of it doesn't need repeating, and I found myself getting boredThe description of poppy does get confusing, and I get what people are saying. It makes no sense for her to be curvy if she was starved most of the time. It's only minor, but it's there. The jokes, although funny, are repetitive. I mean, she stabbed him once. Once. Not multiple times. This joke made me question if I had missed a stabbing.I can understand what people are saying in the reviews in regards to the writing. If the author is pandering to the Facebook group (I'm not part of it), she needs to listen to the reviews here. These are the reviews that people read. I nearly didn't buy the third book because of the second and the reviews. I didn't want to have something repeated to me. It is true when the first and last 15% of the book is the only parts that are worth a read. The middle drags a little. There are a few grammatical errors, mainly in the 1st and 2nd, like missing commas and question marks where there shouldn't be.I hope the next three are of better quality and that most of it isn't Poppy's insecurity of being the maiden. Or every terrible thing she went through, as said the maiden.I hope for the writer to listen to the reviews on here, not just the positive.I would however recommend this book because I do enjoy the storyline even though it goes a roundabout way of getting to the point.

Disappointing
I found rating this really hard as it was one of my most anticipated and I had such high expectations, especially with the last books cliffhanger but I felt this book didn’t hold my attention as much as FBAA and AKOFAF. I thought I would have this read within two days but it took me a week. There was just too much talking, thinking, repetitiveness and not enough tension, action. Huge filler chunk in the middle but last few chapters it really picked up 🤩.I find it so frustrating how Poppy is constantly portrayed as violent when I don’t feel that her character has a violent nature. I just don’t get it?!!The cover is still annoying me, the crown needs to be centred!!!.I have loved the relationship development between Poppy and Casteel but I felt they had lost their spark in this book, yes there’s plenty of steam 🔥 and you see how much they absolutely adore and respect each other, it’s cute! Maybe a little too cute. But It lacked something!Cas is perfect in every way and Poppy’s confidence grows immensely. Kieran is so intriguing, enjoyed most of the other characters too!.I know I’m sounding all deflated about The Crown of Gilded bones but there were parts I loved and as a series I love the story, and excited for more!

What a journey!!!
Solid 4.5 starsI'm so glad I waited to read this series leading up to the release of Gilded Bones because the ending was far worse in Flesh And Fire than this. Poppy had a bad arse ending in this one and it really settled my nerves because I know she's gonna put people in their places and no ones standing in her way to make what she wants to happen. There was definitely some form of shift with the dialogue in Gilded Bones compared to the last two. Everyone spoke more freely and it seemed more modern-day instead of 'medieval' in a way. I absolutely love all these characters, not just Poppy and Casteel but all the wolven and the little group who are always on route with Poppy and Casteel. The sarcasm and teasing between the group is completely different from other books I read and it's refreshing to see. There were certain points that had me belly laughing and I would have loved to have seen this side of some characters earlier on in the book because I didn't know it existed. It made me for in love with them all over again. My head was a bit of a scrambled mess with all the theory and reveals at the end. I'm hoping it just starts to make sense in the next book. I mean I knew the Gods, Kings and Queens were all messed up and sleeping with everyone but the lines started to get blurred with who's the outcome of who and who did what for why. I definitely enjoyed the twists and turns that it took and I can't wait for this to come together later down the line but the reveals could have been staggered throughout rather than in a cluster. This affected it being a 5 star read, as well as it is a tad repetitive with Poppy and her backstory, which I ended up skimming at points along with the history of the Gods. With that ending though I need to read the next book!

So many lies
Poppy and Casteel’s arrival in Atlantia has not been as positive as they’d hoped. Aside from the brotherhood attempting to assassinate Poppy several times, a fair few Atlantians (and a few Elders) are suspicious of her. Are cold and even rejecting of her obvious claim to the throne. On top of all this, the Blood Queen has both Poppy’s and Casteel’s brothers captive, so they believe, and they are desperate to get them back. But of course, things are never as they seem.Daaaaaamn. So many lies! So many, many lies that just hampered their progress over and over. Little lies, pathetic lies, gigantic, overwhelming lies. All.the.lies. And so many of them from people they should’ve been able to trust freely. If those on their side had just been HONEST about everything, so much unnecessary drama could’ve been avoided. I actually don’t know how Poppy forgave Eloana so quickly. On the other hand, for someone that is renowned for asking a lot of questions, Poppy seemed to never ask the right questions in the times that mattered. Just so frustrating.Having said that, the drama and action was ramped up in this book. There seemed to be a lot more smut but I’m not actually sure it was needed (I know, I sound crazy for saying that) as some of it just seemed gratuitous. We met a lot of new creatures and beings though, and discovered Poppy’s true heritage.A lot of secrets and truths were unveiled at the end of the book and I loved the “mic drop” scene at the end! Can’t wait to see how it all comes to a head in book 4! Is it March yet?

Slow start but picked up nicely
Jennifer seemed to be really repetitive in the first part of this book and there was loads of dialogue that really didn't need to be there, if you take all that away then I loved it hence the 4 stars. We know poppy is unique, and despite this shes still fairly Vanilla and despite the reminders (which I felt we didn't need so many of) we know that Poppy is not as she seems but as the book built I felt that this frustration I felt with the repetitiveness through out the first two parts was to prepare us as the readers for the amount of growth she does in the final part of the book. That growth saved the book Poppy really went princess to God in pages and I was here for it!!Despite what i didn't like about the book there where also a lot of other elements I loved, I loved how Jennifer touched on the Wolves, they are a crucial element of the story and as Much as I love a lot of the characters, Kieran will always remain high up as one of my faves, I cannot wait to get more of him. I also loved how TCoGB was unpredictable I would never have guessed what went down towards the end and it gave me that edge I needed to be eager for the next book, which at this point I am so ready for
