Great Solution For Future Power Outages!
We recently experienced an extended power outage (30-hours) at our vacation home. I decided I wasn't going to have to deal with that type of situation again, so I purchased a Generic 8000-watt portable generator, a 25-foot power cable, and the Reliance 10-Circuit 30-Amp Outdoor Portable Generator Power Transfer Switch. The unit is very well made, nicely laid-out and easy to install once you understand how simple it is to put in. The plastic pipe that they supply as the conduit between your existing circuit breaker box and their transfer switch could be about a 1/4" larger in diameter. My electrician and I wrestled with getting all of the wires pulled through for about 15-minutes. The instruction manual could be a bit easier to understand if they had step-by-step instructions for the common homeowner. My electrician was more familiar with large industrial power units and had a hard time understanding exactly how simple this unit operates. So I called Reliance, and had him talk to technical support. Once they explained the basic concept we were off and running. It took my electrician about half-an-hour to get everything hooked up, and the switch works perfectly. I would highly recommend this unit and the support that Reliance provides!

Better than advertised.
It was easy to install and wire; however, it would have been much easier if the wires had been labeled or paired. Also, identify the breaker the paired wires belong to.

Well-made manual transfer switch
Nicely constructed switch. Good, readily available circuit breakers. Wires were plenty long enough. Used for my battery backup for the house.

Very good quality
I bought the outdoor version, and it is very well built. The steel enclosure is high quality, I had to add a knockout to it using a budget brand hole saw, and the steel is so tough and relatively thick it took the teeth right off the hole saw.It uses Siemens QP breakers which are only $8 each at the hardware store. I replaced the dual pole with a pair of single pole breakers, grateful they weren't expensive.

Works as advertised
Wires could be longer. Would probably be no problem if you can mount the auxiliary panel right next to your main panel. I had to make sure to move the breakers I wanted to use to the bottom of mymain panel otherwise the wires provided would have been too short since I had to mount the new panel slightly below and next to the main panel. The exit from the panel is also just barely big enough to accommodate the 20 wires. Once that was settled the panel functions perfectly. Labelling on the wires is very helpful. Seems to be well made and surprisingly heavy for its size.

High Quality and Easy Installation
I’ve been saying that I was going to install a transfer switch for years, but finally got around to it after helping Lake Charles, La with hurricane aftermath. While I’d love an automatic generator installed, I just couldn’t justify $12k+ for something that I may never need. Total installation time was right under three hours, and I took my time. There’s some really helpful videos on YouTube that I’d recommend watching prior to starting your install. Kit came with the majority of what I needed. The only additional items needed were the wire nuts for joining the wiring, electrical tape for taping wires together to pull through conduit and all basic hand tools. Wires are a tight fit, but not bad if you tape the ends together to pull through the conduit. Now I can easily plug my generator into the bottom of the box and run all of the critical circuits in my house if needed.

easy to install
TURN OFF POWER AND SWITCH ALL FUSES TO OFF POSITION IN FUSE BOX AND TRANSFER SWITCH BEFORE YOU BEGIN. You must identify which circuits you want to have on in the event of a power outage. The PRO-Trans videos on youtube are right on point. Be sure to put the ground wire(green) on the ground bar in the fuse box and the white wire to the white neutral bar in fuse box. You will experience a challenge getting all wires through conduit but they will fit. Then wire it as per instructions and youtube videos.
