I'm so glad I brought a pointer, I wanted to do beach detecting, so being a beginner I wasn't sure what I needed, so I brought a pointer as I watched some tutorials about them and released that they are very handy just poking about in the sand after I got a hit on the detector or dug a hole to check if it was still in or I had dug it out, works really well good purchase, recommend getting one,

Went out metal detecting the other day, although my dectector has a pin pointer built in, I found using this gave me a better direction in where the item was. Very robust feels nice in the hand. The pouch which comes with it very nicely made I have stuck it to my metal dectector so I know exactly where it is and not bulk out my trousers carrying it. Over all pleased with it. Yes it's not a garrett type, but for some one just starting out it works and not too expensive for some one just getting into the hobby.

Started taking my Grandson metal detecting, his other Gramps had lent him a detector and we were sharing my pinpointer. Bought this so he could have his own one and it’s really good, the detection is close some 25-30mm for a small item such as a nail or coin but that’s what you need for searching through the soil/sand after you have dug it out. Larger items are detected some 100-150 mm depending on its mass but it’s great for rummaging about in the hole you have dug to see it there’s anything there. He located and found 3 coins and several buttons on our first day and this helped, great tool and battery life is good too!

The pinpointer is fine, you get what you pay for,and at this price, it is good for my needs,using it what it is meant for,pinpointing a find in a hole,not really for searching, use your metal detector for that. the reason I dropped it a couple of stars is, like other people on here ,there was no booklet as promiseed in advert, so Amazon,get a grip opn this false advertising lark! People trust you, dont let them down.

It's detection ability isn't that of the leading brands. It beeps at a distance of about 4" - 7" away from the soil hidden metal object. The £80 minelab beeps at about a foot away.The larger the metal surface the pinpointer is away from it can detect, but 7" down in the ground is it's limit. A small item like a coin is the lower limit of 4" distance.I've got use to it not being able to detect at the depth of the metal detector, simply by knowing if the pinpointer isn't detecting the metal in the ground, I've not dug deep enough. But obviously once I near the depth it begins to beep which is reassuring at times having dug a hole 16" deep.
