Great value, quality, and excellent flavor. I usually use half the recommended spice mix due to having little ones, and the heat level is perfection.

I love Indian cuisine but have little experience cooking it. The Shan Butter Chicken Mix makes it so simple for me to prepare at home one of dishes I most often order when eating out.The mix itself is medium spicy - not too hot, not too mild. I substitute canned tomato puree if I don't have time to prepare fresh (not as good as fresh, but it'll do in a pinch!). I've also started using less than the called for amount of butter to make the dish a little less rich. And that's what's so great about this mix; you get the spices needed to prepare Butter Chicken but have the flexibility to tailor preparation according to taste.Not sure what an experienced Indian chef would say about a boxed spice mix, but for me it's so convenient and delicious.

This is quite a spicy mix. It has red chili pepper as the 2nd ingredient and then 2 other variations of pepper.It has all the spice foundations for butter chicken: cardamom, turmeric, cinnamon, clove, ginger, cashew, cumin, and star anise, but the recipe on the back of the box could use some adjustment.Add some honey and extra cream if the spice level is too much. Water should also be added to make the paste soupy. We use fresh ginger and turmeric roots to pop the flavor.Other than that, we love the flavor at our home.

I used the mix and followed the directions on the back of the box. I substituted yogurt for milk and used canned crushed tomatoes. Makes a delicious, flavorful sauce. Add extra crushed tomatoes and cream if the flavor is too strong. I added extra red pepper flakes and served with rice!

These packets of Indian seasonings are amazing. Warning: use only one half of each packet or it will be too spicy. I simply put chicken pieces in crock pot, season with this, dribble olive oil and add no more liquid. I let it cook for 2-3 hours on low setting and then serve over Jasmine rice or asparagus risotto. Yummy. I ordered 6 boxes since the shipping was the same. I have given two boxes to friends, and I will now see if anyone stocks it here in Austin.

This is not the same as Shan Butter Chicken, I’ve been purchasing it in the store for years. This one had an odd color which made me check the ingredients. This contains Almonds which I am severely allergic to. Almonds are not a listed ingredient and I’m grateful I checked first as I could have had a severe allergic reaction and a possible hospital visit. It is incredibly dangerous to not disclose nuts are in a food item.

I did not like the taste

I loved this butter chicken mix! The instructions were easy to follow and the end product tasted great. I have tried several butter chicken mixes from local grocery stores, but none of them have been as good as this one. My fiancé said that this butter chicken was better than the one we had at an authentic Indian restaurant a few weeks prior. I will definitely buy this product again.
