GLUTEN FREE FOOD PLAN IS CHANGING MY LIFE!
Thank you Elisabeth for doing so much of the foot work and research for us. I am recommending this book to many friends . . . and strangers . . . as a responsible and earnest effort to bring this simple "cure" of so many symptoms of ill-health, to light. To think that taking ONE thing out of my diet has eliminated 5 or 6 MAJOR physical complaints some subtle psychological complaints, is just wonderful. I only wish I had followed advice much earlier. Can't force folks to think that one thing out of their diet can change their entire life . . . people need to really want to get well and feel good. When they do . . . this little book is a great little guide with full support and help from Dr Peter Green, who specializes in Gluten free health. I recommend this easy little book. Clear and uncomplicated. ~

a very up to date book about this disease
I was diagnosed in 1989, i was 18 and believe me all i wanted to do at the time was die due to how utterly sick i was, after years of severe suffering and almost dying due to the malnurishment and time going to so many many different doctors, and doctors telling my mom that i was anorexic. well even though i have known about my gluten (celiacs disease) for 22 years now this book was a new enlightment letting me know that i am not alone with this disease. it has new research and up to date info that anyone who has or is curious about gluten or celiacs should indeed buy. it was an awesome read. it has very informative new information.

Very informative
I have been living with psoriasis for twenty years. After reading this book I have found the cure; Stay away from GLUTEN! I had been hearing a lot about gluten on the talk show, The View, and decided to read Elisabeth's book. Thank you SO MUCH for writing this book. I had no idea that gluten has been added to so many things we eat and drink. I do not have celiacs disease but I have been overloaded with gluten to the point that my skin was telling me that something was wrong. I knew it had to be food related when my skin cleared up after a thorough cleanse in preparation for a colonoscopy a few years ago. Little did I know that this one ingredient was the culprit. I recommend this book to everyone. You just might find help for yourself and your entire family. Too much gluten can cause a multitude of problems.

Good for recently diagnosed...
I found the book to be very positive. I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago and have done a lot of research - this book didn't really tell me anything new. But, her outlook on life was very positive and can really make a difference in someone who is newly diagnosed (or struggling). She shows that mistakes (getting glutened) can happen and you're not a failure (no matter how bad you feel). It truly is about finding what you CAN eat, and not feeling sorry for yourself about what you can't eat. There are substitutes out there for nearly everything - they may not be identical or as good, but again, it's about what you can have. Her list of what you can eat is helpful. It is a little annoying to hear her call it an allergy - but when out in restaurant, I have done that as it is more of a red flag than an intolerance (which they see as similar to lactose intolerant)... an allergy they see as you may go into anaphylaxic shock if you eat it.There are many different viewpoints than what she poses (e.g., using shampoo with wheat as you don't ingest it)... but I think she covers off on them really well.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I think she had a great opportunity to provide a little insight into pregnancy as a celiac who is complying with the diet - that was disappointing not to see. I know what can happen if you don't follow the diet... are there any additional risks that happen if you do follow the diet. With 2 pregnancies, she could have spoken to that a little bit. Also, I didn't find the chapter on weight loss helpful at all. With the exception of myself (a former personal trainer), most celiacs I know have actually gained weight after diagnosis - due to the ability to finally retain nutrients and the fact that nearly all of the gluten free cookies and cakes (etc.) have a much higher calorie and fat count. They look to these items as comfort foods (they do taste good) and with one cookie having over 500 calories, you see how quickly it adds up. Portion control is key (which she covers off on - information on calories of the goodies would have been helpful though).I would recommend this book, just thinking about these things.

A Serious Book for Celiacs and their families
I bought this book for my niece who is 24 and probably celiac. It's great for all ages, but it appeals especially to a young woman who is having similar issues to those the author describes in the book. Immediately after reading, my niece adopted the GF diet and her symptoms are improving after just 2 weeks. Her mother, my celiac husband's sister, read it too and discovered that her dermatitis herpetifomis has been misdiagnosed for years. I found it excellent for detailing the hidden sources of gluten in prepared foods. I'm gluten free by choice, and my husband is not as sensitive as Ms. Hasselbeck. So I found it very helpful to me in keeping him G-free. I was impressed with the book's content because I had expected it to be a trendy money-making diet book. It's not that at all. It's very entertaining reading on a very serious subject. Thanks to Ms. Hasselbeck, awareness has been raised, and more G-free products have become mainstream since the book was published.

G-free survival
This is an excellent guide to the G-free diet. Since discovering a wheat intolerance, life has been difficult to say the least - this book put it into perspective and helped me tremendously. I keep it by my side and use it to write my shopping lists! Couldn't be without it, from how to cope with the problems posed when diagnosed to practical tips for socialising without stress, highly recommended. Saved my sanity!

A true survival guide
I bought this when I was investigating if my son has celiac disease. I tells you everything, from the challenges of getting diagnosed, not only which foods you can and cannot eat but also which body products contain gluten, to how to survive and raise awareness amongst others to get more gluten free choice in the shops. Well done and thanks Elizabeth!
