Standard Course HSK 1 (Chinese Edition) Paperback – January 1, 2014

This is a great resource when you are studying for your HSK exams, or even if you're just trying to brush up on your Mandarin. A couple of things to note:- Make sure you get both the coursebook and the workbook. It wasn't immediately clear to me that there were two different books, but using them both will help you achieve your goal faster. The coursebook is the solid color and the workbook is white.- There is an answer key. However, it is not in the book. You have to go to the website to download them. It took some digging, but you can Google instructions on how to find it.- I see some reviews that say that there is no pinyin. There is definitely pinyin, at least in HSK1. I haven't purchased the more advanced books, so I can't speak to those. But don't worry, there is definitely pinyin.- Lastly, some reviews mentioned that they were unable to get the CD to work. While mine worked fine, I imagine you'll be able to download it from the website in the same way you can download the answer key.Happy studying!!! 祝好运!

I was nervous purchasing this book due to the fact I didn't know exactly what I was getting. An inside view would have been nice, but LET ME TELL YOU, this book is amazing!!! I'm teaching myself Chinese and this book is making it SO MUCH EASIER. It comes with a CD with pronunciation and other exercises on it. The book itself has lots of pictures, pinyin, and characters written in a way that is easy to pick up. The chapters are short and simple, but the explanations (in Chinese and English) are really helpful and insightful. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a good beginner text. Don't let the simplistic cover fool you; the interior more than makes up for it!

I tried the accompanied disk. It worked beautifully. For people who do not have a way to read disk with their computers: I went to a nearby public library, and very easily pulled the files to the desktop and then pulled them to my thumb drive (USB drive). And the quality of the recording is very clear. The whole book is black and white, including the photos. Considering the reasonable price, I am not surprised nor disappointed.

I was looking for a book to prepare for the HSK test, and this was great! However you need find stuff along that's not in the book, specifically the audio files and answers. Its pretty easy to find the audio files that go along with book online, however I had no luck finding any sort 'answer sheet' online. I recommend looking up the YouTube channel "Language Endeavor" they have videos of the lessons that have the audio files, and shows the answers right after so you can check your work.

Great book for beginners. I purchase this as part of a online course at Udemy. Book has Chinese characters, pinyin and English translation.
