Great new 'unplugged' versions of all his hits!

I only knew two things about Christopher Cross. First of all, he did the theme tune to that bloody awful Dudley Moore picture. You know, with Liza Minnelli and some old Shakespearean duffer, slumming it for cash. "Arthur"! That was it. God, I hate that film. Not as much as "Arthur 2", mind. Where was I? Oh, yes, the other thing I knew was that he did the original version of 'Ride Like The Wind', as covered by Yorkshire metallers Saxon, the video for which involved Biff, the singer, singing on a bunk bed in a Mexican jail. Well, it was the eighties.Which is by way of an excuse for me not realising until track five, that this is actually a greatest hits album. I hadn't read the press release, but when I heard the dreaded words "once in a life you find her", the flashbacks kicked in, and it took three burly men and a strong sedative to calm me down. Suitably drugged, I then took time to peruse the bumph, and to learn that it is, in fact, an acoustic re-recorded collection of hits, done jazz stylee. Which usually means that no-one wants to release new songs, and that the old record company are stingy with royalties.Whatever, I was actually very pleasantly surprised at how good this actually is. I shouldn't have been, after all, the man has a handful of Oscars and Grammys to keep him warm on cold winters nights. But once I'd programmed out track five, and got used to his falsetto, there were an awful lot of good songs to kick back and listen to, with 'In The Blink Of An Eye'. 'Sailing' (not that one) and, yes 'Ride Like The Wind' absolute gems. 'Sailing', in particular, could easily have sat on a Crosby/Nash album from the seventies, it's that good.The warm, late night jazzy arrangements suit the material perfectly, and if there are a couple of tracks that are just a bit too sugary sweet, it's a small price to pay for such an excellent collection.

I bought this because I thought it was a live album (yeah, I'm a sucker for live stuff) but it turned out to be a thoughtfully constructed album of some of the best CC songs. There is a twist, the songs have dreamy, late night jazz feel - very smooth.Highly recommended.

Ausgezeichnete Musik und charakteristische Stimme! Cross bietet 68 kurzweilige akustische Minuten ohne nervige Solo-Ausflüge. Die Hälfte der umgemodelten Songs stammt aus den Jahren 1980 und 1983 - seiner frühen und besten Phase. Spätere Schaffensperioden sind mit guten Einzeltiteln vertreten.Auch wenn manche Rezensenten von Jazz reden - dies ist keiner, sondern einfach gehobene Popmusik in kleiner Besetzung. Glänzende Saxofon- und Flötenpassagen, dezentes Klavier/SynKlavier und ordentliche Akustik-Gitarre, teils etwas steifes Schlagzeugspiel, ein zurückhaltender Bass. Klingt zusammen erstaunlich voll!Die Songs wurden nicht in einem Cafe eingespielt, sondern in zwei normalen Tonstudios in einer Art Generalprobensituation. Meiner Meinung nach wurden die Titel während der Aufnahme direkt abgemischt und später nur unwesentlich nachbearbeitet - intim und schnörkellos. Zum Glück gibt es aber keine grausame »Live-Atmosphäre«, dies ist keins dieser schlimmen »Unplugged«-Dinger; ein Studio-Publikum gab es nicht. Ton- und spieltechnisch ist diese CD absolut lupenrein, ohne blödes Gelaber der Interpreten oder derlei, dabei warm und berührend. Cross singt alle Stücke (bis auf Teile von Track 2) in seinem unverkennbaren Falsett, das in diesem musikalischen Zusammenhang von einigen Kritikern völlig zu Unrecht bemängelt wurde. Diese Stimme ist in dieser weißen Ausprägung derzeit praktisch ohne Konkurrenz. (Bei schwarzer Musik sieht es natürlich anders aus. Prince, EWF usf.)Und noch eines: Diese Scheibe enthält keinen Rock, sie ist sogar vollkommen rock-fern, was bei dem allgemeinen, immer härter werdenden Herumgerocke weißer Musiker in diesen Jahren einfach nur zu loben ist.

Seine Musik im allgemeinen ist für mich über jeden Zweifel erhaben! Aber auf dieser Scheibe fehlt mir einfach etwas! Nämlich seine richtig gute Gitarre die seinen Sound auch so unverwechselbar macht. Deshalb plätschert das ganze so ziemlich gleichmäßig dahin.Ich hätte mir nach all den Jahren einmal eine wirklich neue Scheibe von ihm gewünscht!Deshalb mein Urteil: Diese CD kann man sich getrost sparen! Drei Sterne nur wegen der Titelauswahl! Und wie gesagt seine Musik im allgemeinen ist über jeden Zweifel erhaben!Hoffe bald etwas neues von Ihm zu hören, denn für mich gehört er zu einem der größten Künstler der vergangenen Jahrzehnte und ich habe sonst jede CD von ihm im Schrank und kann sie alle uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.Nur wie gesagt diese CD nicht!

suonato magnificamente, con arrangiamenti orientati al jazz, ha alcune canzoni veramente bellissime. Sailing, secondo me è quella con la migliore performance. da tenere nella propria raccolta

Wer die Gelegenheit hatte, CC mit dem Programm life zu sehen, für den ist das eine schöne Erinnerung. Im Gegendsatz zu den anderen Aufnahmen sehr auf "unplugged" getrimmt.

Grande disco da ascoltare tutto di un fiato veramente bello dal vivo è registrato anche bene

Le più belle canzoni di Christopher Cross in versione simil unplugged, ottima per l'ascolto "rilassato". Buona anche la dinamica dell'incisione che aiuta ad apprezzare l'intera opera.

diese CD hat wie viele CC Alben tolle Stücke mit viel Dynamik, wunderbare Balladen zum Träumen, aber eben auch das eine oder andere langweilige Stück. Kann man kaufen und hören, man macht nichts falsch

Un son jazzy intimiste superbe, quelques standards revisités qui conservent tout leur charme. Un enregistrement d'orfèvre qui sublime mes enceintes. Chaque instrument est présent, la voix, envoûtante, a le lead. Et le timbre et les mélodies de Christopher Cross, qui ont baigné mon adolescence et continuent d'agir. Un des meilleurs CD que j'ai achetés depuis des années, vraiment.

E' un'ottima rivisitazione di alcuni dei migliori brani di C. Cross, in versione unplugged e molto soft. Eccezionale l'esecuzione della band di estrazione tutt'altro che rock/pop. Bellissimo, lo consiglierò.

La custodia del cd è rotta. Il resto è come ci si aspetta.

Einfach tolle Musik

Versions retravaillées façon Jazzy de ses "meilleurs" morceaux (on en aurait voulu un peu plus tellement le disque passe vite), et hormis quelques arrangements à la Kenny G, c'est un album loin d'être superflu et une bonne façon de rappeler Christopher Cross à notre bon souvenir. Pour les fans et les autres.

Ich bin damit sehr zufrieden. Es hat mir gut gefallen. Jedem der daran Spaß hat kann ich es weiterempfehlen. Toll!

Der Kauf der CD hat sich wirklich gelohnt. Die neu arrangierten Hits klingen fast noch besser als im Original. Die Intimität des Albums kann man wirklich spüren.
