Fretboard Roadmaps - Slide Guitar Book/Online Audio

Excellent, as usual
I'm a big fan of the Roadmaps books and I was looking for a general introduction to slide guitar. I can play slide in a very limited sense, but wanted a general nudge into more detailed info without being overwhelmed.Fred Sokolow organizes all of his books in a similar way. You learn chords and scales, how the chords are built, and some starter info in how it all fits together. This book is an excellent way to get started with slide and to understand it beyond using an open tuning and making a chord by barring across all the strings. The Roadmaps books, to me, excel at helping to visualize what you're learning. Affordable and well worth every penny.

Great Series
This is the second fretboard roadmap series book I've read, and like the first it was easy to follow and understand with some useful tips for navigating the fretboard. Does the best job of relating various tunings to each other, of any book I've read covering that topic. Definitely worth the price.

Good for lapsteel
I bought this book to help with my lap steel playing. After all, lap steel is playing slide in a more comfortable position. This book gives you the information you need to play licks in a blues scale for a number of different tunings. It does not give you all of the patterns you can use, but it will get you where you need to be. It also gives you information for forming minor chords in different locations on the freeboard. These are explained, and there is also a diagram of the location of the minor chords on the fretboard. The book is user friendly, but may be a bit difficult if you do not play guitar already.

Challenging
I know Fred Sokolow is a good series of guitar books, but when it comes to the "slide" books I am disappointed by this: his fret maps are the same as in other of his books that I have seen. When you "fret" a slide guitar you have to land the slide directly over the fret. When you make a chord or select a note on a non-slide guitar you have to land between the frets. It appears to me that the fret maps in his slide books are exactly the same maps that are in his regular guitar books and I find it frustrating to interpret. Time consuming. Most song or lick examples also have a tablature staff (TAB) that helps a lot in interpreting what the book is trying to teach you, and after you get used to using it, this can be very helpful.

If you want to learn slide guitar this is a good place to start. I am glad I bought it.

Good Product (not for Lap Steel really)
I have some other Fretboard Roadmaps books and love them. I got this one when I picked up my lap steel and it mostly applies to slide guitar. The applications will work on the lap steel but it's not geared/tailored for that instrument. Still a great book if you ware wanting to pick up some slide guitar.

Achat inutile

Indispensabile Slides for Dummies!
Utilissimo per un primo approccio allo slide. Diverse accordature presenti tra cui anche lo standard tuning, con ottimi esempi, direi indispensabile!

simply excellent
Having played guitar for years, but never taking the time to learn slide, I bought this book as a complete beginner to this style of music. It is cleverly written and teaches you small licks (about 30 seconds long) that you can play along to with the cd provided. These licks show you different ways to manipulate blues scales, and before you know it you can improvise up and down the fretboard without the need to spend countless hours learning scales . I have been so impressed by the way this book is written I have ordered a number of other fretboard roadmap books.Certainly a great addition for any self taught guitarists library!
