Works great, fair price.
I ordered this to replace a Krups that had been used a dozen times a day for over a year. This review is based on comparison between the Better Chef, the Krups, and a Braun which I've also owned.Unlike the other two models, the heating element coil is exposed. This doesn't favor super easy scrubbing, but nothing a vinegar soak or bottle brush can't handle. The pop-up lid is basically the same as what Braun uses, and I highly prefer it to the Krups locking, twist on lid. It's just easier to manipulate (especially for someone with arthritis). Also, the lid on the Krups came apart slightly in only a month or so. Since it wasn't affecting use, I simply never bothered to get a new one.The Better Chef heats very fast and performs well. The base seems to have a slightly longer cord than either the Krups or Braun, but I could be recalling this incorrectly. I was unable to find any exact cord lengths on the internet.I have not detected any foul plastic odors while heating nor any unpleasant plastic taste to the water. It's easy to use- just flip the switch at the base of the kettle. The large, clear "window" on the kettle is great for making sure you don't overfill.Overall, a solid product at a good price.

It worked well for 6 months
This kettle does what it is supposed to do. Heats a lot of water (1.7 l) fast and is easy to clean. It has no plastic taste.UPDATE: Today (6 month after purchase), I was unable to turn the kettle on. I dropped the rating down to 3 stars because of the durability.

Water pot
It does't seem to keep the water hot for very long. It is also difficult for me to get back on the stand.

It is good for what you pay
My spouse wanted to have it. she is happy with it and the price we paid. The body is plastic and you can see steam comes out from specific locations but it does not hurt youI recommend it.

Auto shut-off is unreliable
The little water filter near the spout is held on by a tiny flimsy clip atits bottom. When filling the kettle through the spout, the force of thewater makes the filter detach from the clip. When the water is boiling, the auto shut-off is apparently meant to be activated by the steam in thekettle. But the steam escapes past the detached filter, so that thereisn't enough steam inside the kettle to trigger the shut-off. So thekettle boils incessantly (it does shut-off properly if the filter is inplace). This is a safety hazard. Another problem, more minor, is that theswitch doesn't click off even when the kettle is lifted off the base; thekettle resumes boiling when put back on the base.

Not the best...
It looks OK on the outside but I don't like that the heating element is out on the open unlike other kettles that have it invisible to the consumer, i don't like that if you pick it up before it boils and you set it back up, it continous to boil the water unless you manually turn it off. It is lite weight. It is also not very convinient to fill it with water. I have not been lifting the top because of that and just filling it up thru the opening. For this money i bought much better kettle before (on sale) and probably will change this one shortly.

Revised review
I believe I gave this a lukewarm review, but I would like to change that to a very good review. The more I use it, the more I like some of of its subtle points. It is big, it is bulky, it can be a bit awkward at times to get it to fit on the plate right away, but when it comes to speed, good looks and efficiency, it is really a winner.
