I have 2 of these
The reason I looked at these is because I've had a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 for about 6 years and it was getting a little long in the tooth.I bought my first one of these in July 2019 and was really satisfied with the performance and usability. I got the second one in March 2020, and have been using the two as a pair of fault tolerant storage systems. This is an excellent product for home use, and even thought the spec here says it can go up to 24 TB, it has been designed to take larger disks to accommodate more storage. According to the Readynas Hard Disk Compatibility list, it can take up to 4x16TB disks. The two I have are configured with 4x4TB and 4x6TB drives respectively, and I've found the devices to be very easy to configure and very reliable.I have also set them up to be Time Machines for my Macs and they work really well for that purpose. You can configure how much disk space you want to assign to the Time Machine Backups, and also configure both shared and private Time Machines.Overall I'm really happy with the RN214s that I have

Good.
Simple to get up and running, simple to set up personal cloud and access from phone etc ehen away from home. I added 12Tb of storage in a raid 5. If you have a netgear swich you can bond the two ethernet ports, even with a normal switch/hub you can still use both to improve load balancing. Not too keen ont he documetnation for backups using RSYNC, most is for an older version of the operating system. You do need to make sure you get the latest firmware updates. For the hardcore users you can enable SSH root access and that gives you the full power of the linux distribution on which it runs. I have two in separate building, one backing up the other, one running subversion and mysql and the other offiering a web service too - you can do all that just picking apps off the menus. I have all my music, videos etc on it and DLNA to TV, hifi etc. My main use is to hold my photographic works and that runs to a few Tb. The apps screen offers Resilio Sync and that provides a simple (and free) means to set up syncronised folders across multiple PCs, tablets...My only gripe is that I has a few "slow downs" accesing shared folders from my PC. and I keep turning up out of date examples and documents when I search for help. Updates improved things, but then I found out I needed to adjust the paging fiile on the PC - strange but it worked.

Recommended Network Attatched Storage for home / small business
Loaded with 3xSeagate Ironwolf 8TB. Easy to set up, does what it says on the tin, excellent performance (consistently over 90 MB/s read & write over a single gigabit ether connection). The Netgear ReadyNAS devices may not have as many "bells and whistles" as some competitors but this really isn't a problem. Just be aware that building a 24TB RAID 5 volume (using X-Raid configuration) takes the best part of 24 hours, I don't see there's any way out of this (my ReadyNAS 104 with 4x4TB drives takes over 3 days).

Very easy to set up and fast speeds.
I've upgraded from an old Netgear Duo (roughly 10yrs old - and still going strong but I out grew the 2TB limit).Only running a single drive so far (which might be speeding up write speeds) but managing 100MB/s write, which is the max of the single connection.Shares are much easier to set up the whole GUI is much improved (as you'd expect after 10years!)Very pleased with the redundancy and volume offered from a 4bay system.

External
If an extra external disk drive is plugged in it does not reconise it is there too fast and may need the NAS rebooting. There is a difference between the web interface and Windows File Explorer? I lost files on RAID 5. The unit keeps warning DATA: Degraded. The disk number LEDs blink to tell you what disk is faulty. It seems to be settling down now, but keep a separate backup of your data in case off loss.

When it works its fine! but it is not user friendly
When it works its fine! but it is not user friendly, I have OK Tech skills Good luck if you don't. customer service is bad! after 90 Days you have to pay for support and help THAT IS WRONG! Firmware updates seem to cause people problems all the time. My NAS is online i know this because i can access my content via PLEX but the ReadyCLOUD Desktop App and web client tell me my device is offline so i cannot gain access to it to manage my files anymore, NOT HAPPY. After going nuts and trying everything at my end you could think of, it seems that it is a problem at there end! I Had to dig deep online to find out this information, nothing was mentioned about any technical problems at there end on the App or web client THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW NETGEAR! Some people have also mentioned that there files have been DELETED! To any customers with problems in the UK Try these numbers 08435060458 08448754000 03448754000 i got bounced from the first number to the second number to the third number, then i was on hold for 6min's and gave up so good luck trying to get help or answers! IF IT WASNT FOR ALL THE TECHNICAL ISSUES I WOULD GIVE THE PRODUCT 4 STARS, BUT ITS SO UNRELIABLE IT GETS 1 STAR! The NAS Should be my backup but its a total joke that i have to backup my backup.

User-friendly, flexible configurations
I’ve had my RN214 for a little over a year now and have been very happy with it.We use the NAS to run our Plex server, to easily synchronize photos from our Android phones, for computer backup, and a place directly scan documents to… more on each of these below. I’m currently running two HGST 6TB NAS drives in RAID1, but will soon be replacing them with four Toshiba N300 6TB NAS drives in RAID5.PLEX/MEDIA SERVEROur primary use of this unit for watching and recording OTA (i.e. antenna-sourced) TV with Plex via an HD HomeRun Extend. We watch TV and recordings with Amazon FireStick4k and on our phones. This NAS has adequate performance to record one show while watching another show live provided no transcoding is required, or it can record two shows simultaneously. This unit doesn’t have the capacity to live transcode, so look elsewhere if that is important to you. Load times are quick and there are no noticeable delays.PHOTO SYNCWe each have Samsung phones, and use the ReadyCLOUD app to easily upload all new photos to our ReadyNAS. Provided the NAS is properly configured, you can synchronize from anywhere – a great way to keep backups of photos while travelling.COMPUTER BACKUPSI do manual backups of important files monthly – I know there are automated options, but I prefer to manually upload files. I save them to a restricted folder to prevent access by anyone else.SCANNING DOCUMENTSOur printer/scanner has the capability to scan to NAS. This is super convenient because the computer doesn’t even need to be on to make the scan. We have ours set to scan to a “scanned items” folder that is accessible from our computers and phones.MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTSBuild quality is excellent – this thing is built like a tank. The backlit display is convenient and lets you know status changes if you aren’t logged into the ReadyNAS portal. I’m unsure of the power consumption but the power brick is rated for 84W peak (assuming HDDs are 10W each, this suggests that the NAS could use up to 44W under load?).OVERALLThis is an excellent easy-to-setup media server and backup NAS. If you require live transcoding, look elsewhere, but if not, consider this unit.

Silent, fast and solid build
I have had a ReadyNas 102 (purchased second hand) running for 3 years without any issues and being very pleased with it, I decided to go for for the upgraded 212 version when my old Drobo NAS failed. The ReadyNas 212 is solid build, drives are installed with no tools (there are disc mounting screws in the package if needed), and easy to set up. It runs very quiet, and is a big step up speedwise from my 102 unit. Only thing I can complain about is the very bright blue lights from the buttons, I wish it was possible to adjust the brightness from the OS, but that's not the case.I have 2x3TB WD-RED drives installed, they also operate quietly and remains cool.Im very happy with my unit so far, and trust it will serve me well for many years.

Eccellente

Perfetto in tutto!
