Nice shoes
Great shoe for the price, carbon sole and boa dial are features you typically have to pay a bit more for.

Comfortable on and off the bike
I bought these to replace 25 year old Shimano SPD shoes. Those were great, and these are great too.

Not a typical Shimano sizing
ALWAYS wear a 47 in Shimano shoes (standard, not wide sizing)...bought these and knew immediately they weren't made to the typical Shimano shoe dimensions. In fact, the opening of the shoe was almost too small to slide my foot in...narrow sizing laterally and great toe touching front of toebox...these are definitely not business as usual in terms of Shimano shoe sizing. And of course, nobody stocks a wide 47 so I'm out of luck for this model. Yay.

So far so good…41 Wide
This is my 2nd or 3rd pair of Shimano shoes, but the first for gravel. My foot has grown over the years (go figure) and I now wear a 41 EE… and as I expected, the 41 were a bit too narrow so I had to return them. I then learned Shimano offers a wide shoe on their site, so ordered and did my first ride today. These are a bit wider…would say more like a 41 E, but better than the straight 41. They may run a bit long in the length, as I felt I could have gotten away with a 40.5 wide if that were available, but I had no heel slippage at all. Very solid feel on the pedals. The reason for the new shoes is that after 1 to 2 hrs of riding in my older Shimano MTB shoes, (size 41), my second to last toe on one foot would start to hurt, and it can get so bad it’s hard to think about much else for however long the ride lasts. So I did about 2 1/2 hours in the mountains today and all good. I know that one ride isn’t much of a sample, but the shoes felt great for first ride out of the box. I didn’t have any of the reported slippage reported by other here, be it off my pedals, in the dirt, on the rocks, or in my house (wood floors). If things change (knock wood they don’t) I’ll add more to this, but so far, really like them. Was also considering the Sidi MTB Gravel shoe, but jumped on the wide when I learned about it.

Bad for walking
The TPU outsoles feel slippery and unstable on hard surfaces and tend to feel like I may slip or twist my ankle. A huge no-no, if you are looking at these, go find some with rubber studs/lugs, like the XC's. They also already have some wear on them, so not sure how long the outsoles would last. Also, the cleats clatter like crazy when you walk in them, because the studs/lugs are too short to cover the metal, which is a huge bummer. I'm sure these aren't nearly as bad for walking, as some road shoes, but they are still bad. A huge disappointment. For riding they are great, but I wanted shoes I could walk in more or less comfortably and quietly.

Generally Great Shoes, But Not For Serious Riding
These are great general shoes. Stiff but not too stiff, the BOA system works well enough. They're comfortable overall without any weird pressure points to speak of. All that you'd think is great. The problem is, with the correct size (mine being 45, where my toe is just barely not touching the end of the shoe), the toe box vertically (from base of foot to top of foot) is absolutely cavernous. As a result, the whole forward half of my foot is notably loose. I have tried to tighten down the velcro strap as much as I can, but it's almost as if it's designed NOT to actually be used -- there's very little play in the shoe to tighten that. The outcome is that while pedaling properly (meaning not just pressing down but pulling back and up), I am wasting cadence energy as my foot is shifting vertically in the shoe. The BOA system doesn't tighten the forward half of the shoe (just the velcro strap) so there's no real effective way to fix this. If you have thick (vertically) feet or intentionally want a loose toe box (vertically) these are a great fit for you. If you want to maximize your pedaling and have a shoe that wraps around your whole foot comfortably such that it is not shifting around in the most important spot (right where your shoe clips to the pedal), get something else.
