can the ends be melted?

Yes, they are typically melted. Fibers such as polyester, nylon and polypropylene can be melted . Typically the ends are melted to reduce fraying and can help the cord get thru an opening. Fibers such as cotton and the Aramids (ie Kevlar from DuPont) cannot be melted. They simply char under high heat.

Can i use it for magnet fishing?

This should be an excellent rope for magnet fishing. It is low stretch and strong, with great outdoor resistances including UV, rot, organic solvents, etc.
