Fun
A collection of 1-3 page anecdotes from his life or people he knew he (correctly in my case) thinks the reader will find amusing--not at all a self-indulgent autobiography by someone who thinks the mundane details of his life are worth recording. No whining--he was clearly someone who enjoyed life and considered himself fortunate to do what he loved.Written in a very conversational style, like you're at a bar just listening to him over a beer--clearly not ghostwritten.Nothing profound, just a really fun read, especially if you're a Columbo fanatic but really I'd imagine even if you aren't.

Through The Eyes of Legend
This book was so just what I needed! Something witty, funny and looking at life through the eyes of the legendary Peter Falk! He kept it simple,he was real and I love the fact that he paid honor to his first wife Alyce and to his 2nd wife! The photos in here are lovely, the only bad thing about this book is the fact that HE WASN'T MOE GREEN! I mean after reading this book I'm heart broken to know that,.we could've had our beloved COLUMBO IN THE GODFATHER! But truly this book is terrific, what else can you expect from one of the greatest actors in history!

Peter Falk Talks About Columbo As Well as His Career
Peter Falk tells how he was in some remote place, in Africa, I think, when he was approached by some local kids who smiled and waved. "Columbo!" they shouted.Falk talks about his raincoated character as well as other experiences in his life in small chapter, anecdotal form. He spends a couple of the chapters discussing how he came up with the Columbo character, what made Columbo tick, and even his use of the raincoat and where he got the beat-up old Peugot Columbo drove. Interviewed on the Actor's Studio by James Lipton, he's asked what he would like to hear God say when he arrived in heaven. Falk answered, "How much are those shoes?" a typical Columbo line he ad-libbed during an early episode. He also talks about other experiences in a chronological order, people he worked with, jobs he had, jokes, and more. He tells about the acting insight he got from orson Welles who was fed his line just before delivery through an earpiece. There was his arrest in Eastern Europe where he and his girlfriend were galivanting. He commented briefly on the skills of the late Patrick (Braveheart, TV's The Prisoner) McGoohan, who was a frequent Columbo guest villain as well as director of some episodes. There's his glee shared with co-star Alan Arkin that the Michael Douglas remake of their classic, The In laws, tanked at the box office. There are a few chapters about his friend John Cassavetes, the filming of favorite movies including It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Frank Sinatra's call to ask him to be in Robin and the Seven Hoods (where he had to sing!), and much more.Regrettably, since writing the book, Falk has been stricken with Alzheimer's and ultimately passed away.Lightweight book, great subject, plenty of photos, even some sketches that Falk drew including a nice one of Columbo, a fast read (I'm not an especially fast reader but I knocked this off in one day).

Loved learning about Peter
I'm a life long columbo fan. I used to watch it with my dad and now I watch it with my husband. I have all seasons on DVD. Peter Falk was amazing in it so when when I got an opportunity to learn about his life I jumped on the opportunity. I picture him as a very sweet man who was also funny and a rascal 😊loved learning about behind the scenes!

The life of Peter Falk, our Columbo!
History of his life is interesting. He is a local boy who knew what he wanted to do and was well liked amongst his peers. He is a shining example of success even with a handicap. It should come with a 4 x 6 autographed photo!

I'm Not Here! I'm Home with Shera!
Peter Falk was best known for his television role as Lieutenant Columbo from the Los Angeles police department (homicide division). Viewers knew who the killer in the first five minutes of every episode. Peter Falk played Lieutenant Columbo with intelligence, class and style. He was constantly in pursuit of his prime suspect to the point of annoyance and irritation. The difference with Lieutenant Columbo and his suspects was that he sought to find the evidence to convict them. It was never personal but professional. He had played wits and smarts against some of the finest actors and actresses onscreen. Lieutenant Columbo became an iconic figure thanks to Peter Falk. Before Columbo, Falk had an illustrious career as an actor in theatre, television and film. He learned from the masters like Eva Le Gallienne and others. Peter Falk had friends like Ben Gazzara, Bob Dishy, John Cassavetes and more. Peter Falk began his acting career in theatre before venturing into film and television. He had a great sense of humor, wit and charm about him. He reminded me of my own father. Sadly, Peter Falk died in 2011 from illness. This book was published in 2006 before illness savaged him.Peter Falk had led an incredible life as an actor. The book doesn't go in too much detail about his life especially his two marriages and one picture with adopted daughters, Jackie and Catherine. There are pictures of him with Alyce, his first wife, and Shera Danese, his much younger second wife. Peter Falk and Shera Danese were married for 33 years until his death. Their marriage was a true partnership. It was obvious that Shera cared and loved Peter very much.Peter Falk dedicates his memoir to his wife, Shera, and their dogs. The book was published in 2006, a few years before he died. Peter was an artist and actor. I still watch Columbo episodes on MeTV every Sunday night. Posthumously, Peter Falk was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television.

Worth repeating.
I can always tell when I like a book because I read this in two days. It usually takes me two MONTHS to read a book, so I knew what I was getting and dove right into it. Great book. Very informative and was easy to work through. A great method by Mr. Columbo.

I loved him as Columbo and I believe I would have ...
I read it in a few hours. I loved him as Columbo and I believe I would have loved him had I the chance to meet him in person. A very funny, genuine and engaging book. Just one more thing, Thank you Peter Falk for years of priceless entertainment.

An entertaining and funny book.
I enjoyed this book. I've always been a big fan of Columbo, and was sad when I heard about his death a few years ago. So when this book arrived, I was looking forward to reading it. I like the fact that the chapters are quite short and snappy. Sometimes people can talk for too much, but I didn't find that with Peter. He wrote this book in short chapters. He tells us all about his acting career and the people he worked with in front of and behind the camera.I won't lie, I was a little disappointed he didn't focus more on Columbo, since I think this is what he's most well-known for. Anyhow, it's still a fun and enjoyable book to read.

Some interesting anecdotes. Not enough Columbo content. Missing pages. Overall: Good, not great.
I'm a big fan of Columbo and bought this expecting plenty of anecdotes about the show. (The cover and the title give you the impression that's what you'll be getting.) In reality, Columbo makes up no more than 15% of the book, but it's still an enjoyable read. However, I've deducted one star because this edition (which, I believe is a recent reprint of the 2008 paperback) is missing pages 191-206. I presume these will be available in earlier editions of the book, but these are changing hands for silly money, so I'm not sure I'd want to spend the extra to get an older copy to find out. Overall, It's still worth a read, and I don't think the missing pages would have covered anything particularly revelatory. So, if you're a hardcore Peter Falk/Columbo fan, this is still a worthwhile investment, just don't expect to get your socks blown off by it.

A life in anecdotes...
If ever a book's style mirrored that of it's author, then this would be a prime example. It's flimsy and unfocused but that's one of its main selling points. About as far from a traditional biography as you can get, it's essentially a series of anecdotes that help paint a picture of the man himself as if being told about him by a friend. It's honest and funny without really being insightful, but it's a lovely stress free read about a really good man and I'd happily recommend it.

Just Buy This Book
I love Columbo, so I bought this book. It's full of short, short chapters packed with anecdotes and tidbits of info that are all relayed in a very relaxed and informal style. As Peter says: "By now you should know what I like: short stories that can be read in ten minutes. Stories that supply a chuckle, that are designed for people like me, who pick up a book when they get into bed, read for 12 minutes, and doze off, hopefully with a smile on their lips". I really only know Peter Falk through Columbo and those John Cassavetes films that I've never seen, so it was nice to learn a little more about Peter Falk the Actor and his career. On the whole, it really is funny in a lot of places and it's punctuated with photos and several drawings by the man himself (he was a keen drawer). As I read, I couldn't help but conjour up that distinctive voice. There's not a great deal on Columbo the TV show, but enough to satisfy within the context of the book - afterall, he did do loads of other stuff too! Recommended.

Good old Peter Falk.
I was sad when Peter Falk passed away, I have been a fan of Columbo since I was a kid. This book is fantastic, certainly different from most autobiographies. It reads as a series of short stories almost, and doesn't focus on drivel from people's personal lives. It's entertaining and informative. I would recommend it.
