Effective and so simple to use
I have been putting up with a smelly shower drain for more than a year. I got to the point where I thought I was going to have to cut the floor open to install a larger trap, but then something made me think to look for a check valve. This insert isn't specifically called a check valve, but in essence that's what it is. Water can flow in one direction - down the drain. Neither water nor odor can flow in the opposite direction - into the shower. It was extremely easy to install. I removed the drain grate from the shower floor, wiped out the inside of the drain pipe, and then pushed this little device into place. After that, I put the grate back in place. The insert didn't get in the way of the grate at all. It's very effective, too. Shower water drains unimpeded, and there is no more odor coming from the drain. This was a whole lot less expensive than a major repair on the drain trap. I am beyond delighted that I found it, and Oatey is a reputable brand, so I trust them!

I works very well
I think this drain seal is great and easily worth the price. It stopped odor and drain fly problems in my 4” basement floor drain. Works great with condensate lines as well as larger flows. I’m on about 6 months with mine. I expect it will need replaced every few years or so. But it’s easy put in and take out, no tools. “Doing the job right” costs thousands. So I’m pleased.

Exactly what I needed
I have a upstairs shower that has a faulty P trap and often smells bad. I had to clean the drain every couple of weeks only for it smell bad again. This drain trap fits perfectly in the drain pipe and immediately blocked the smell. So far no issues with slow drainage during or after I take a shower. I would recommend however just manually inspecting it every now then to make sure no hair or gunk remains on the drap trap after a while. Its easy enough to remove and give it good clean and or rinse and then putting it back in place. I like that no tool are required for installation except for a screwdriver which you need to remove your existing shower drain cover. Definitely money well spent as my P trap is not accessible to replace or repair without a major remodel. So this is a cheap and easy fix.

Works as advertised
I purchased to reduce noise from shower drain that's about a foot above the P-trap - does a good job. Easy to install. Hope it lasts. Seems expensive for what it is.

Doesn't really seal completely
It mostly works but there is always a tiny gap that lets gas through.

It works
We have a downstairs shower we rarely use and the floor sink constantly dries out, letting gas in. I was a little skeptical of this product working but after I received it I realized the sealing material is like thin silicone membrane. That's what allows it to let water flow but seal itself back up. We haven't smelled swamp gas since I installed it. I bought the 2" for modern residential shower.

No More Mold
We live in a newly constructed home. After a year we noticed that the standing shower started to smell, and mold started growing under the silicone caulking. I stripped the moldy caulking, re-caulked the entire shower. After 2 weeks the mold was back. I was starting to guess that it might be the drain and p-trap. I purchased this Oatey seal to test my theory. Installation was a breeze, it just pops right in and fits snugly. It helps with aesthetics of not having to see a white pvc pipe in the shower. The water drains without any issues, I've never had any build up. Finally, it's been over 3 weeks and no mold in sight. Fingers crossed this continues to do the trick!

Overpriced and Misleading
I paid $29 for this "floor drain seal" and can't see anything in the design to justify the price. The product appears to be one piece from the way it is shown in the listing and in the video demonstrating how to install it. Instead, it's two pieces: a plastic collar and a very thin, very flexible, rubber tail piece. The rubber tail goes into the shower drain pipe where it holds by friction, with the collar over it. So, the rubber tail is the only part projecting into the 2" waste pipe. There's no way I'm risking a major headache by having the rubber fall into the trap and it looks like that could happen. It certainly doesn't inspire confidence that it won't fail, so it's a no for me.

Not odor proof
Odors still seep through as the slit does not close properly even after wiggling it to best fit
