Did not damage camera
This item has only two contact points for the battery adapter. The actual battery has four contact points. I was in trepidation when I tried it out. So far so good. It did not fry the camera. This is about 4 times less than the "official" Ac adapter.

Beware!
It stopped working. After my return period. canon would not turn on even though I tested voltage - my camera will not turn on with it
