I asked they seller at their website if these were treated with anything because I noticed an odd smell with the batch that I received. They sent me a materials sheet and it turns out these are not actually solid hardwood, these are milled from Russian plywood and with formaldehyde! Russia is known for its manufactured wood products, so this isn't a surprise, BUT it should be divulged in the description that they are no matter how they appear, they are not solid hardwood and are technically not "unfinished" due to the preservative that's added to the bonding agents. Formaldehyde, aside from being a massive carcinogen, can also cause skin irritation from handling and a number of other long term issues. Don't use these for any type of children's toys, or pet and kitchen applications. So, the take-aways here are 1. They are of Russian manufacture, and 2. They contain formaldehyde.

Exactly what I needed, will put caps on ends and use to hang on wall hooks with bracelets.I plan to use like five rows of dowels for jewelry. They were great, saved me cutting and sanding already exact size needed.

I bought these for beginner macrame projects and they work perfectly! They’re solid, clean, good looking dowels and I plan on purchasing more in the future!

These were purr-fect.. I made scratching and climbing shelves for my kitten/cat. I didnt want L brackets in walls so instead I used 1/2" dowels. They worked great. I'm very satisfied with these, they are sturdy has a nice finish (not that u can see them) but all n all will he buying in future. And there is a lot in the bag thanks.

I got these to use with help holding my plants up so they do not droop and I did have to cut them in half. they are very well made, and I can see where painting or staining them would be no issues. they are smooth, and you do get a decent amount for the money. I also use them to put behind windows to keep them from being slid open. and they are strong enough to use to hang crystal curtains on. I am please and will purchasing more. ideas are limitless.
