BucillaCandy Express Christmas Stocking Felt Applique Kit, 86147 18-Inch, (418717)

So I admit, I read the reviews and scoffed at the people who said it took them like 50 hours to complete this. I thought to myself that would not be the case as I am an avid crafter, including cross stitching and had already made one, five years ago for my husband, while pregnant and sitting on my but, cleverly blocking out the memory and knowledge that his stocking was still missing a bird ... How silly and foolish I was ...I had been looking for a train cross stitch stocking when I came across this and thought it was adorable and that I'd have no problem completing it by Christmas since it would be arriving 11/29. Good news! I finish it in about a week. Bad news I worked on it for 5-6 hours every day except for the weekend.More good news, it's gorgeous. I used double thread for attaching beads, it's for a four year old boy, and did more than the "few small stitches" to secure. At the end I also made a lining so it was stand up better to use.Bottom line, it's a lot of work but so worth it. He is so excited for Santa to fill his choo choo.P.S. Even gave my husband's stocking his final bird, whoo hoo.

I've never done needle crafts before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Over the years, my Grandma made Bucilla stockings for my entire family, but lost her eyesight before I had my first child. So I decieded I had to carry on her tradition. I have almost completed the stocking, and will have it done in time for my sons 2nd Christmas. It is fairly easy once you get started, although overwhelming at first. I strongly suggest watching u-tube videos anytime your confused about how to do a stitch. Also if you're brand new to needle work, save yourself a LOT of time, look up easy tricks to knot the tread! The kit includes good, detailed directions; however, in less you're familiar to this type of project it might be confusing at first. At least it was to me, but once I got started things started to make sense.Like other reviewers, the needles in the kit were not color coded as stated in the directions. The smallest needle is for the beading. I also ran out of red sequines but was able to take some out of a different kit I bought last year at a local craft store (the train is soooo cute and I figured if I was going to spend all the time and energy making the stocking, I should buy the best one I could find)! The rest of the supplies had ample quantities. I didn't care for the font included so I found one I liked in MS Word and wrote my son's name free hand on tracing paper and it worked very well.Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the stocking. I know it was be treasured for years to come and I'm looking forward to making more stocking in the future. Amazon had by far the best prices I could find online and with free shipping as an option, how can you lose?

Always looking for whimsical ideas. Easy directions

The instructions are easy to follow. I'm NOT a crafter however I did this and it turned out wonderfully.

This was the first Bucilla Christmas stocking that I have made but plan to make many more. I made it for my first grandson for his first Christmas. I have only a couple of complaints. The kit did not include everything that was needed (like pipe cleaners which I do not keep on hand) and there were not enough red sequins. Also, the holes on so many of the red beads were too small for the needle to go through. I did decide to line the stocking which was easy to do and I think it will help the stocking hold up better over the years. And in my opinion, the stocking looks better lined. The stocking turned out really cute and I can't wait to give it to my grandson.

My kit was missing all the white felt. I also had to buy separate embroidery needles because the ones supplied were too small for embroidery floss.

I decided to make this stocking for my son because I had one made for me when I was little. I do not sew and I knew I was taking on a big project. It took me about 3 months to complete but I found it to be very easy once I got used to the wording of the instructions. I didn't think the tips on how to create certain stitches were very easy to follow, I usually went to youtube to see how certain stitches were actually made. I've since finished a stocking for my daughter and I'm very pleased with the product, I had plenty of materials to finish.

I made my first stocking 34 years ago when my son was born. When he got married he wanted his stocking & wanted me to make one for his wife. Three years ago they had a baby & they wanted another one. Now they had their second child and requested another. My son's is still being used and in terrific condition after 34 years, so would consider nothing but Bucilla. What a great pattern, easy step by step instructions and way more than enough supplies. Really brings the magic of Christmas to any home.

I have bought a number of these stockings over the years for close family members. They are extremely easy to make following the very clear instructions. Everything you need is provided in the kit apart from the stuffing which isn’t expensive and is easy to get.
