A workhorse.
If I could give a 4.5, I might. The Oster Pto Blender 2-1 with Food Processor Attachment and XL Personal Cup is a work horse. You can make a single drink or a large batch of smoothies using the same container. It has a powerful 1200 watt motor which delivers. It has a 3.5" wide blade which does a more thorough job of blending the ingredients. It has 7-speed setting of which 3 are preset functions. Preset allows you to push a button and walk away for making:a. green/frozen smoothiesb. food chop/salsac. milk shakesVery efficient in chopping ice.It chops and or crushes nuts. I use nuts in most smoothies and shakes. I simply add to the other ingredients and touch the smoothie button.Does the trick. I do not make nut butter in it...use my food processor for this activity. It is dishwasher safe, even though I wash it by hand as soon as I use it.It doesn't take up a lot of space.I did have to learn to put the rubber washer on properly. it must be perfectly aligned.with notches in the black base. I also had to pay close attention to how I lined up the jar on the motor part of the blender. Cuts down on noise and certainly MESSES. It only takes one "big ole blue smoothie mess" for me and I quickly learned what I did wrong and makes me realize that I just thought I had it right the 1st attention.A couple of cons:a. Jar is a wee bit heavy.b. Oster does not state if Individual smoothie cup is BPA free.c. It is a bit noisy, but real noisy if not put together properly.I would say the pros out weigh the cons.It was a great price on Amazon. In fact, I would say a better price than other places I shopped.I replaced an old Oster, which was 40 yrs old and a workhorse. The reason for the need of replacement is that the collar on the base finally cracked and I could not find a replacement. Else wise, I would still be using the wonderful machine. I am quite sure that I will not get the same number of yrs from this machine but if I get 10, I guess that will be okay..Warranties no longer impress me but I guess it is a good advertising point to state that the warranties are better than others---I have found that getting companies to honor today's said warranties on foreign goods usually amount to a huge headache. My other Oster was manufactured in the USA and this Oster, as all things today, was made in China.

Like blender my mother had
I like that the pitcher is glass. I love the size of the smoothie cup. It’s strong. I can add spinach and it gets completely pulverized as does any fruit I have frozen that I add.The food processor is also nice.As to the leak issue. Yes, I have occasionally found a small amount of an odd grey grease like substance at the bottom of the blade on the underside. I know for a fact this is not the liquid in my blender due to the color. For instance, if I make a smoothie with turmeric and the small leaky substance is a grey blue, it is not the liquid from inside the blender or the smoothie cup. Also, it is one solid piece of metal. The leak does not come from the gasket not being set correctly. I called Oster. They kindly send me a new blade.Since this little leak only happens occasionally and is very small amount, I am not too concerned. One theory I have is that if there is any moisture in that tiny hole in the underside of the blade where it sits on the motor, when you run it you will get a bit of “goo” there. I try to make sure that after I wash it that it sits in my drainer on its side so no moisture stays in the hole and also the blade and gasket dry as well. This is such a minor issue for me that I decided not to downgrade a star. It’s a little noisy but it’s fast. It’s better quality in my opinion than the Ninja we tried prior to this with the tower blade I was certain I would injure myself with.So far so good. If you are over 60 and want a blender similar to what you were raised with but with more power for ice crushing and decent smoothies, this is a good choice.I don’t leave it out on display. I put my stuff away for clean counters. Even though it is not true stainless steel on the motor base, I still think it is nice looking if you did want to leave it out. The quality is in the motor and the glass pitcher, not the way the motor has been covered in silver plastic, and I’m okay with that.

great blender
Pros:-Glass jar (rare in blenders now it seems)-Easy to use settings, I like the smoothie setting that goes back and forth to get things blended up really nicely.-Lots of power for blending vegetables or ice.- It gets things blended up really nice and smooth and creamy.-Single appliance for both food processing and blending - I like that you can interchange the food processor and blender. Saves space in the kitchen.Cons:-It's pretty loud- louder than the kitchen aid blender I was replacing.-Sometimes the bottom gets stuck on the jar and it gets really hard to get it off, especially if you put certain things in there (I added psyllium husk to a smoothie once and it got in there and expanded and made it really hard to get off).-The base feels/looks a little chinsey (silver plastic) compared to my old durable Kitchen Aid blender. Also because it is set at an angle, if you dribble or drop anything as you're putting it in the jar (i.e. I will sometimes drop protein powder) it will get onto the base and dust the top of the thin buttons and it's kind of hard to get cleaned up well (see photos).- You aren't supposed to use the food processor on the highest blender setting, but I find that it sometimes needs more power to do a good job processing some things (e.g., making nut butter). Probably just requires more patience and longer processing times.-The plastic cover also feels a little chinsey, like the plastic will eventually get brittle and break. We'll see though, maybe not.- Still not really sure what this little plastic thing is sticking off of the bottom (see last photo)???- The outside/bottom of the food processor container is hard to get clean. Water gets in but you can't access it easily.Overall: Happy with my purchase, it works for what I need it to work for I use it all the time (5 times a weekish).
