A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Complete Wreck (Books 1-13) (A Unfortunate Events) Hardcover – Box set, 13 Oct. 2006

We bought this set of books as a requested Christmas present so have not been given yet. However, they were a good price , were well packed & delivery was very quick.

A really great series of books and written in a really stylised and consistent way. The Baudelaire children, Violet, Claus and Sunny have recently lost their parents in a fire, and what follows are the series of unfortunate events which stem from that. In the first few books they're introduced to various different guardians including the dreaded Count Olaf, who is after the Baudelaire fortune. As the books go on the story becomes less formulaic as the children are accused of various crimes and have to branch out on their own. The mystery deepens with each book as the author/researcher skilfully drip feeds us information about the secret organisation that the Baudelaire parents were a part of. A really entertaining read that appeals to me as an adult and I'm sure is enjoyed by children around 12 years old (it's a little dark for anyone younger I reckon). This is the second time I've read the whole sorry saga, and this is definitely the kind of story that rewards rereading. Enjoy!

Great books, very well written and lovely illustrations. If you are familiar with the series you will know that the story itself is a bit repetitive, however the way this is written compensates for this, with an interesting lexicon, paradoxical situations, dark humour and frankly quite a few well summarised life truths - such as when you are in misery most of your social circles disappear. My 10 year old is reading fast through the whole series and so am I.I wanted to get the audio version too, but it is unfortunate that it has music and noises in the background and whilst some listeners may appreciate that, I find them disturbing, so I didn’t buy them after listening to the sample.

This was a bargain purchase for me as I've been looking for books to load my Kindle with to read to my son when we're away on holiday. He's just starting on his chapter book adventure and he enjoyed the Lemony Snicket film recently so this was a convenient way of introducing him to the books.The set contains all thirteen of the Series of Unfotunate Events and they are amongst the most attractive Kindle books I've seen with many of the little features that make the paper books look so great. I read the first few books as an adult and we have them in harcover but this is a really good value way of completing your set. I really enjoyed the books as an adult, I couldn't resist reading them through, it's a great way of plugging any gaps in your collection and having the books in a very portable way. I'm quite tempted to buy the hardcover set if my son enjoys these books as I'd love to have paper copies of the books too.

Overall, they are a really good quality. The only issue I had with the books is the thirteenth book is not fully glued down at the spine meaning it is not completely secure which ruins the appearance slightly and can make it a little difficult to read if you are like me and do not crack the spine when reading. The outer packaging arrived slightly broken but as it did not affect the quality of the books I was not affected. The books arrived with little stickers on advertising the Netflix series but they easily peel off and do not affect the appearance if you do not wish them to be on there.I would definitely recommended these books as the quality was good and the appearance of them all is good and is a good series of books. They are a great read and I was able to easily finish the series within a few days.

It was great to watch the TV series on netflix and even better to be able to get the whole set of books. I am already on book 9 and find them to be such an easy read. They arrived within days of ordering
