What does 'unsmoked' mean?

"Unsmoked" refers to the drying process, which uses clean warm air (indirect heat) to dry the herb. This is in contrast to smoked yerba mate , which uses direct heat from wood fires to dry the herb, resulting in a smoked flavor. "Unsmoked" yerba mate has a cleaner, greener flavor.

Would you add sugar to this tea? If not what would you add?

Up to you. I would try it by itself first, then add whatever you think you need or would complement the flavor. Sometimes I add a bag of vanilla black tea with it.

No. The color is more a golden-brown, and it is not smoked. I first tried Mate tea in Peru and it had a smokey flavor and gave me some good energy. This is not smoked and some articles I read said that makes it healthier. The box says it comes from the leaves of a South American rainforest holly tree. Best when brewed in 170 degree water as directed. If you google "Mate Tea", you can learn about the tea in general.

Can I compost the wrapper?

I have not heard of anyone tossing used tea bags for compost, I would contact the seller. Or, contact your local nursery. What is in the ground, such as clay, being acidic, etc.can determine the degree organic matter is broken down I bought this product only once, did not like either the taste or the tea bag it came in.

Gentle energy boost!

As an avid coffee drinker, I find this yerba mate tea amazing. It has a gentle energy boost and with a dash of honey, it taste great. As busy as I am in the morning getting ready for work packing my lunch, it's a breeze to click on the hot water kettle and pour a tumbler of tea on my way out the door. So pleased with this tea, I have started a subscription to receive this product regularly to keep it available. It is not available at any local supermarket I've searched. I highly recommend!

Weird Effect

The taste is good but it did make my heart race and I got a bit dizzy. I am not sure why because I drank it once before and it was fine but the next time I drank it, I felt funny. It’s been months since I drank it again.

Delicious and distinct-tasting tea!

I had no familiarity with Yerba Mate before trying this tea, and I'm so pleased with it. It's got a smoky flavor that I can't describe well but have never come across in a tea before. It's so different from what I'm used to, and I love it.The amount of caffeine (box says 20mg) is perfect for me, and I appreciate feeling focused but not jittery or wired.I will definitely buy this again.

Mate Runs in my Veins!

Cali born but proud Argentine.I literally grew up drinking yerba mate on a daily and I have always had it the traditional way. But when I found this organic mate and eco-friendly tea bags I was so excited. Usually mate is dried by being smoked and although mate has been link to warding off certain ailments, the method of smoking has been known to have a carcinogenic effect.
