I know when I have a heavy print/copying run I can usually get through at least one ream of paper on one catridge (500). Having bought the \"ordinary 301s I would only purchase the xl versions as they are much better value for money even if a little expensive (but not as much if not bought in the high street and the double packs are even better value.
