VR Game Changer for less than £1000 !!
As an owner of a second hand 5k+ I knew the 8k would excel. I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger and order. As any VR enthusiast already knows, VR isn't a plug and play option regardless of specification of the PC it's being attached too. I run an i9-9900k with an EVGA 3090 GPU and it took me around an hour to dial in the settings to have the 8k running smoothly. This thing blows my mind. In DCS I have pixel density at 2.1 and I'm achieving 60FPS almost constantly. the eye candy is screen door free and silky smooth.I don't hesitate to recommend this (or any Pimax HMD) provided you understand this isn't plug and play. If you're running VR already you'll understand what I'm referring too. That said and this is customer service at its best. Once you've purchased, you get an email from Pimax offering you complimentary assistant in setup !So some constructive comments:Yes, the warping at the peripheral limits of FOV is visible, was this a deal breaker? No, you actually get used to it and in reality, you only see it when looking for it (in my case anyway)I didn't find the headband comfortable for me personally. This is a subjective thing because what felt uncomfortable to me, may well be totally find for you so don't be put off by this. The sound quality of the speakers however was exceptional.Be mindful that this is a large HMD and it gets warm on your face, the 8k+ doesn't have any built-in ventilation so, an easy remedy is it buy an inexpensive desk fan and have that pointing toward you whilst wearing the HMDIf you're gaming in a seated position and with the full tracking of 12DOF you will need a lighthouse tracker (I have 1 HTC/Vive) which works perfectly with the 8k+All in all. I am delighted with the 8k+

top of the line - but enthusiast level tinkering required
Pimax have had some very mixed press over the years, I was a backer of the kickstarter for the original 8K and have owned a 5K plus before this as well as vive/oculus etc.I have no doubt that this is the best visuals you are going to get right now, both with resolution and wide FOV which is the Pimax unique selling point. This does come at extreme cost though, you are going to need top of the line hardware to take advantage of it.I 'only' have a 2080Ti and I can't consistently get the highest resolution out of this. this isn't a Pimax issue, it's just that even the flagship 3090 still isn't really enough for this headset in an ideal world. There's definitely a premium feel this final product, that I never felt with the kickstarter of course. Even the software and getting things working is now pretty much seemless.OK the bad stuff.....You will REALLY have to tinker with the settings to get the most of this right now, if this is not for you, perhaps you should go with a quest 2 or G2 etc. Lots of people complain about distortions, eyestrain and numerous things.... but personally I think these can be over come with some patience. It took me a couple of months with my 5K to really get it dialled in.... and strangely I also think your brain is part of this process, and it can get used to the issues given time.I was going to stick with 5K as it is still pretty great, but the offer of trading this at full price against the newer 12K is pretty attractive.

Awesome
Awesome headset - took a bit of setting up for flight sims but after watching a few youtube videos - MS Flight Sim 2020 & DCS have never looked so good in VR

Beat headset around.
Pimax headsets gets a bad rep for a reason. Bad reviews are warranted. You want the best, you gotta realize it's not plug and play. It can require a degree of PC skills, which people are unwilling to do or just can't. It's not complicated, you're doing no programming lol. It can be stressful when it's going wrong. It's so amazing when it goes right. The fov is so worth it. I'd like to give it 3* but that's not really fair given I love the headset. Just be prepared to get a bit stressed but one you see the fov, you won't want to go back. It's breathtaking.
