Almost Perfect!
I happen to stumble across these by accident looking for my next set of headphones and these happen to be my favorite style. I own numerous sets of Philips brand headphones and have had nothing but good things to say about the brand. So I took a chance on the 8000s and they have lived up to most of my expectations. First off the ear pads are soft leather with sewn seams( to some that makes a difference). The pads are very soft with quality foam. They fit around my ears just fine. The heads are designed to free float(3D ARCH) to accommodate almost any set of ears. They do feel good on my head. The head band is plastic with a steel band that connects the ear pads together. Seems quite durable and comfortable. There is a rubberized foam pad that rests on top of ones` head and does form well and support the headphones in comfort. Second; The sound field is quite good for closed back headphones. I want to believe the bass is just about perfect, Slightly over emphasized, but not bad. The mid range freq. ( mainly vocals) are very good. The vocals are right up front but, not overly done. The hi freqs. are slightly diminished with hi bass music (Metal, Hard R&R). The cord is made off soft rubber and has a memory. It has a mind of its` own. If you work with the cord it behaves some what. The cord is non replaceable but seems rather durable. The dimensions of the HFs.are--8in x 7in x 4in . Over all I like the 8000s for the fit, finish and sound quality. The music that I listen to the 8000s have very good clarity and I can here small back ground instruments. There is one thing to mention: I tried numerous times to contact the Philips Co. and the seller for the specs, with no luck!! Hence the 4 star rating!! The box or paper work does not have any specs except for the 40mm drivers. At all most $90. it is a fair price. I would put these at a price point closer to $70 to $75 IMHO!

Well worth the price [NOTE Misleading packaging]
Fantastic quality, great sound. I don't know if comparing these to my old Sennheisers is fair as i've had those for a few years now -i don't know if they're wearing out due to age- but these Philips headphones blow my HD439's out the water.Thing i love:1. The audio quality. I can't say i've got an extensive track record with various other models or brands, but these are the best headphones i've ever used by far. I'm trying my hardest to listen for any sort of artifacts or clipping, but i have yet to fault them.2. The headband is very firm but easily adjustable. It doesn't put a lot of pressure on your head. I wear glasses and although i notice a litte more pressure on my temples compared to my felt cushioned Sennheisers, it certainly isn't annoying and doesn't get any worse after using them for extended periods.Things i don't like however:1. Personal preference, but I've always hated the leather / faux leather earcups on headphones. They get sweaty and often rot over time. These are damn comfortable mind you, but i would much rather have these headphones in a felt cushion design.2. The cable is rather thick. It retains its coiled state and makes a fair bit of vibration if you're walking around the house. It's even worse outdoors.[PLEASE NOTE] (tl;dr: The product specs are understated on my packaging)I received these headphones in an official Philips box (as you would expect) but the frequency range on the box is described as 17Hz - 23Khz.The frequency range described on the official Philips website is 7Hz - 40Khz.I wondered if this was some sort of error so i contacted Philips by email. One of their reps responded with the following:"The correct frequency range for the headphones is 7-40000Hz as stated on the website, and the product packaging of the first production run did not include the correct information. After SHP8000 came on the market it received the Hi-resolution certificate and this information was not printed on the initial packaging nor included in the leaflet. The correct specifications are now on the latest leaflet and latest packaging."

Bargain Buy
Solid construction, with adjustable headband and found comfortable to wear and not ear straining over long listening.Sound quality was very good to all my types of music of Rock.Blues,Soul,Reggae,Ballads and Electroniics. Also very good in linking up to television to watch dvds or tv programmes and computers.I note the RPP is Β£73,even at that price I would give the same opinion and ratingsDefinate value for money.

Great value
These are quite bassy but still sound very clear. I've also got some more expensive headphones like GRADO SR 80i and AKG K702 and I think that these Philips SHP8000/10 sound very good. The sound from them may be not a 100% neutral but they are really pleasure to listen. They are over ear but if you have got big ears like me then they may be a little too small but still comfortable.

Very nice set of headphones
Very nice set of headphones. The bass is incredible on these, and the mids and highs are not compromised. My only gripe, is that the ear pads openings are on the small side as to where my ears barely fit in, and still touch the outer edges.
