Gavel driveway? You need this!
Works fantastic if you have a gravel driveway that washes out from big storms than this is a must. It's expensive, and it really shouldn't be, there isnt much to it but it's worth it. Makes what would take hours into minutes and doesn't really mess up the grass.

Gets work done!!
At the price I was a little hesitant to purchase originally, but I had a lot of rock that needed to be cleaned out of the yard, due to plowing snow. What took us over 2 hours with a rake to do, took 5-10 minutes with this and it did such a better job. We bought the battery power head unit to run it. It has multiple speed levels. We found that the lowest speed worked the best to back drag the rock out of the grass and back onto the driveway. On the faster speeds it seemed to carry the rock back over the top and throw it forward, or throw the rock back against you too fast and wasn’t controllable. Seems excessive once we were done with the project in 30-45 minutes of using it, but it would’ve taken days to clean the yard up without it. Now that I have bought it and have it, I wouldn’t be without it ever!!

Works good sweeping gravel out of yard.
The snow plow left a ton of gravel in my yard this year. I bought this to clean it out. I worked it hard, but it did the same to me. The thing weighs a ton, and pushes you back while you sweep. My neighbor thought I was out of shape and thought he would come over and help. He had a lot of respect for me after he helped me push the rocks up the hill. With all that said, I bought it to push rocks out of my yard, and it pushed the rocks out of my yard very nicely. I don't think my wife would have the strength to use it. The batteries lasted long enough. By the time they needed charged... I needed a nap. A young fit person would probably want another set of batteries to swap out. Slow and steady wins the race and after a few trips outside my yard was clean along with a couple of neighbors yards as well. As tough as it was to use, it beat the heck out of sweeping them out with a hand broom or rake.I wish it was a little lighter and easier to use. I am assuming the weight might be needed to push the rock better. It does a really nice job of sweeping them up. I have no plans on returning and for the most part happy with my purchase.

Great product &....
First of all, it's a great product. I have 3 pretty large trees in my front yard and I got tired of racking leaves non stop for hours each time. So I decided to buy the SW400MP coupled with the XUX01Z electric shaft unit which works wonders pushing leaves into a pile. However, kinda joking but... (without considering how much more expensive it will get) this is where it makes sense to just carbon fiber the cr_p out of it because it is only until I ordered the SW400MP did I realize apparently I don't even lift. Also keep in mind when the sweeper is doing its job it rotates in the opposite direction as your intended direction in order to push the leaves forward...which pushes you backward...plus the instantaneous torque generated by the electric motor...well this is where I wish Newton's 3rd law of motion doesn't apply to this unit...Regardless I do plan on keeping this product because it saves me a trip to the gym and my wife loves watching me getting owned by an electric sweeper.

Powerful tool
While its not lacking in power or usefulness of other duties as you can see from other reviews, it didn’t work well for what I needed unfortunately. I was hoping for a decent snow sweep, & it actually does sweep light duty snow decently. The problem I had is as it pushes snow out in front of itself the snow starts to build up & then what’ll happen is it gets too much snow in front of it & instead of sweeping snow it starts to spin the snow behind itself & deposits the snow behind itself. I tried this a few different times with a few different types of snowfall living in AK & it just unfortunately wasn’t the right tool for this particular job. The snow wasn't too deep or super thick heavy snow either. It would probably be fine for light duty snow in a different application than mine but I had to return it since it didn’t do what I needed. It’s definitely a lot of tool to handle also.

Great Job Makita! One-pull starting after 5 months of New England winter
I want to compliment Makita and this product. After 5 months of winter and sitting outside in subzero New England temperatures, the power sweeper started on the first pull. And with no engine protection, just last year's gasoline (i am sure that's not what the instructions said to do ;) Anyways, thanks Makita - a great experience!

Great tool.
A power rake on grass, and power broom on hard surfaces. Moves small sticks and rocks with ease. Eliminated the need for my backpack blower. Better control of debris than my backpack blower.

Good quality but not useable
Unable to balance for safe use due to shaft joint. The adjustable handle could not be position to balance the unit because of the joint between the powerhead and the paddle head. Positioning the adjustable handle on the paddle head side of the joint helped to balance the unit but made reaching the power head controls unsafe. Additionally, with the adjustable handle positioned on the powerhead side of the joint the shaft to the paddle head bowed when lifting the unit by the handle. The main purpose for purchasing this unit was to save time and effort for removing antiskid material from my yard along the street. Every year i rent a unit to do the job but none were available at the time so i figured I would purchase one and also have it available to power rake the acorns and hats (thousands) that fall from my big oak tree in the fall .Balance is the key to using a power rake so it does the work not you. I'm sorry to say this unit failed that key requirement.
