These pastes are affordable, there's nothing cheap about them.
I've wanted to try handmade soft pastels for so long but the price always made me pause. I know myself and if I brought pastels that were really expensive I never would have used them. I would have saved them for the right project or waited until my skills were on par with the quality of the pastels. Which is a waste, what's the point of buying art supplies if they're too precious to use. So when I saw these hand-rolled Artist quality pastels in a youtube video I knew I had to try them. These pastels are affordable, there is nothing cheap about them!I've worked with oil pastels and machine-made soft pastels. These pastels are easy to blend and buttery soft. The color applies smoothly to the paper they're very easy to work with. The color is vibrant and the pastels are highly pigmented. I didn't get a lot of dust and when I opened my sketchbook the next day the transfer on the opposite page was minimal. I haven't used any other brands but these pastels behave exactly as I hoped and expected handmade pastels would. I cannot say enough good things about Mungyo Gallery. I'm going to buy their artist oil pastels next. If you're on the fence, I'd suggest you go ahead and buy them. I'm so happy I did. The set of 30 is a good amount but if you can afford a larger set go for it. I wish there was a bit more color variation, two of the reds are very close in tone to one another. This would be fine but in a set of 30 every pastel counts and if your color isn't dark enough there isn't much you can do. And an extra white would have been nice. But since you can buy these pastels individually I'm not too pressed about that. The color chart in the manual is a helpful tool if you do want to add to your set. You can see which colors come in each set and which colors you're missing.

Good choice if you are looking to save $
These pastels seem to be a good value. Most of the sticks are soft and buttery and would compare to more expensive pastels. But some of the darker blues and greens are dry and scratchy. Still, at just over $1 per stick it seemed worth it to me to end up with 26 sticks that are nice quality. I can always fill in those darker colors with single sticks from another brand. They are fun to use and blend beautifully.

Great Value Alternative
### An Interesting Unison Alternative: Mungyo Gallery Professional Soft PastelsI recently purchased the Mungyo Gallery Professional Soft Pastels set of 30:Pros:- Diverse Colors: A wide range of vibrant colors that provide rich coverage.- Texture: Similar to Unison, they glide smoothly across Canson 500 series charcoal paper, Art Spectrum Colorfix Pastel paper, and UART 500 pastel paper, making blending and layering easy.- Ease of Use: Easy to handle and remove the paper cover; can be broken in half for detailed work without significant loss.- Affordable Quality: Comparable to high-end brands, these pastels are softer than machine-made ones but slightly harder than premium brands, offering great versatility.Cons:- Availability and Delivery: Harder to find than other brands, but Amazon offers the best price.- Detail Work: Achieving fine details can be challenging depending on skill level, which is more a characteristic of the medium than the brand.Overall, Mungyo Gallery Soft Pastels are a fantastic option for both beginners and experienced artists seeking high-quality pastels at an affordable price. Don’t let cost be a barrier to this wonderful medium. Highly recommended!

Great colors.
Soft and brilliant colors. Just learning to use them but love the hues. Most likely fun for mixed media.

Handmade Pastels made affordable !
Handmade pastels, in this quantity, usually cost hundreds of dollars (me, looking greedily at Unison, Terry Ludwig etc.). I was looking for a budget set to use as a beginner and after my experience with Mungyo Extra fine soft pastels, I just went ahead and bought this set of soft, soft pastels. They work great - I enjoy using them and have not had any issues with it.Found out later that Karen Margulis recommends Mungyo Handmade pastels for beginners on a budget as well!
