After months living together in quarantine this year, my friends and I were looking for a new hobby to pick up. We have always wanted to learn watercolor painting, but I never felt like I had the time to learn in the past. Nevertheless, our house of five recent college grads decided to go in on this DVD together and make watercolor painting a group learning goal.We were impressed by how quickly we improved our painting ability (starting from literally no experience for most of us), and I was also surprised by how fun the learning process was. The instruction was engaging, and the pace of learning seemed just right for us. One step at a time (sometimes replaying steps a few times until we got it), we got to the point where we all felt somewhat like actual artists. After living in isolation for so much of this year, it was also refreshing to feel like the instructor was in the room painting with us - this was unlike most instructional videos I've seen where the narrator seems detached from the lesson.Doing the example painting as a group was a really fun experience for us. Even if we didn't learn anything, the video would have been worth it purely for the fun of getting together as roommates and sharing our more creative sides. It was cool to see how each painting turned out slightly different and had its own unique style, even though we all followed the same general lesson plan.To go into more detail about the instruction format, a cartoon character does some of the lesson explaining. Though perhaps more targeted towards younger users than ourselves, we thought the cartoon character was a fun addition to the lesson plan, and it helped illustrate the concepts for us. The lessons were easy to follow and had just enough repetition for us to get each step done.Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by how well-made this instructional video was, and we thought the content was well geared towards us. Before buying the DVD, I had some hesitation that the instruction would be geared mostly to children, but having completed the lesson, I now think the DVD is appropriate and enjoyable for all ages.Now that we have started watercolor painting, we're eager to improve and keep working at the skill over the coming year. We hope more videos come out soon, so we can keep refining this newfound skill.

Based on several of the reviews, I was led to believe that the order would come with paints, brushes, paper and more. I got a DVD and only a DVD. Granted the product description does not say that I would get anything in addition to a DVD, but based on the photos, I should have at least gotten the Quick Start card. $25+ is a lot to pay for an hour and a half of low-production quality video.I gave it 2 stars because I did get some information from it, I gave that grudgingly.

I have been trying to get into watercolor painting for a while and this DVD was hands down the best instructional tool I have found so far. I have bought a variety of courses and books in the past that were targeted at learning how to use watercolors, but none have even come close in the fun or engaging department.I would recommend this product for anyone just getting into watercolor painting. I originally was a bit apprehensive about buying this dvd since I thought it might be for younger ages, but I’m glad I made the purchase. I am currently in my 20s and can confirm that the lessons are excellent for all ages.For those interested, here is what the DVD looks like:

Wow, this tutorial helped me produce a painting I would never have thought possible! The instructions explain basic art elements (e.g., negative space and near-to-far perspective) and walk me through the steps, from drawing the horizon line to painting the detail of the grass in the foreground, to yield my version of the author's finished watercolor painting. The complete kit of brand-name materials is great - vibrant colors, the right brushes, even a pencil and eraser. The program is easy to understand, engaging and fun, and has enriched my perspective (no pun intended) on viewing art as well as the rest of the world.

Excellent product, definitely recommended

I’ll admit I was a little skeptical about getting this product because I am so terrible at painting however, this program was amazing! I was able to create a watercolor masterpiece that is now hanging in my room! It was super easy to follow along and fun too!
