Predictable yet watchable
Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy star in this comedy as two officers of the law that are forced to cooperate to bring down a major drug lord. Although the film ends predictably it is a film that kept me watching as know-it-all Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) is repeatedly brought crashing down from her high horse by Detective Shannon Mullins (McCarthy), a foul-mouthed wildcard that always manages to get the job done, even when if it means arresting her own brother. The language is certainly not for the faint-hearted but if you can see passed that it has some brilliant one-liners that surprised me into laughing out loud and I almost woke my snoring husband several times. Some of the scenes have some definite ad libbing which made the film even more enjoyable, although Bullock is playing her typical uptight and unlikable character that relaxes and becomes a woman we could grow to tolerate, and McCarthy is the typical big best friend that makes up for her lack of "beauty" with a big bubbly personality. This, and the plot predictability is where it loses the final star.I would watch this film again, maybe a glass of wine in one hand and some popcorn in the other as opposed to lying on my bed with a cat purring down one ear and the unrelenting snoring down the other.

A ridiculous action flick
If this is a reflection of what the general American attitudes is of getting things done, torture, and as to it being generally acceptable to do illegal dangerous things to people based purely on their own judgement, it is a tad worrying. But forgetting that for a moment...There are a couple of moments that I found laugh out loud funny but most of it felt a tad ridiculous and awkward, I'm not sure why exactly (I guess that's subjective and some people will find that humorous); it was nice seeing one character rubbing off on the other in a way (though for some reason it didn't happen the other way round?); both main actors play characters of some similar breed of ilk as done before (though perhaps Sandra Bollock is more a different conglomeration of characteristics that I've seen her do before). It's nice to see a more female friends-buddy thing rather than a more romantic based thread or male buddy's.Yes, there is a lot of swearing. For a viewer it's a mentally unchallenging/idle movie action comedy flick.

I would give this 6 stars
For a lady, no words can describe the empowerment and cultural impact of seeing two hellishly intelligent, quick-witted and brave women getting the job done while being profoundly human. They got me quacking in my boots, laughing and crying and wanting to be their best friend. - What more can I say? And if you have always been a good person, who never swears, but you have been around the block a few times in your life and had your fair share of psycho-bullying, putdowns and mind games by men - whether you are a woman or man or trans - the swearing (and quite a few comical reversals of roles for the ladies) is going to do you a wholesome lot of good.
