Q: Do you need a ground plane for this antenna?

Yes, this antenna should be mounted to a metal ground plane, bracket, magnetic mount or vehicle roof.

Q: What is the length of this antenna?

From tje base to the ball tip is 17 3/8 inch. the wire part is 13 3/8 inch from the sprint to the ball tip

Q: Will this work on the 2 meter band?

The 2-meter amateur radio band is a portion of the VHF radio spectrum that comprises frequencies stretching from 144 MHz to 148 MHz. Though it might not be the best of the best for 2m, it does work for me on 2m band. Unfortunately, there is no do-all antenna, there are comprimises to make. I also pick up airband very clear with this antenna (AM 108-137MHz).

Q: will this antenna work for gmrs radios?

Yes! This antenna is pre-tuned to UHF 440-520 MHz and GMRS is between 462-467 MHz.
