Great book, but.
Phenomenal book, great subject matter, but Vol 1 & Vol 2 both bought brand new arrived to me in less than great condition. They are both seemingly curved beyond repair, but I have them on my shelf trying to get as straight of a bind as possible.

The magic of the East
For anyone who is interested in ancient civilizations and cultures I highly recommend this book as the Indus River Valley and the Huang Ho were two of the five cradles of civilization recognized in the history of the world. The book is filled with illustrations which give you a glimpse into the life of the people of the Indus River Valley Huang Ho and Japanese cultures. This book has been well researched and the presentation is such that it is a both interesting and informative. There are many maps and illustrations to help the reader grasp the points which are being presented throughout the book. This is a great addition for any personal library.Part 1: This book tries to fill in some of the gaps which are remaining while stating that the industrial civilization is not well-known because their writing has yet to be deciphered. We have learned a lot from the diggings of the site at Harappa and Mohenjo Daro because the ruins of those two cities have been a laid out and engineered in such a way as to give some detail to the high level of engineering of their period of time. This book details some of the personal life of the citizens of this culture and it tries to extrapolate the government and social life of the communities. Though nothing is certain the theories which are presented in this book are compelling.Part 2: This book explains the different dynasties of the ancient Chinese and shows how the growth of the Chinese culture has evolved. It also shows how the different philosophies have been related to the evolution of the Chinese government and the Chinese civilization as well. The two philosophies which it spends time on are the Confusian philosophy and the legalists philosophy. Confucius thought that the leader should show the most moral example possible and that the people would follow his example. The legalist felt that the ruler had to rule with absolute authority in order to hold the Empire together. These two philosophies were in opposition to each other.Part 3: This is a fascinating book telling of the myths and religion of the ancient Japanese people introducing the Shinto and Buddhist philosophies which have so characterized the Japanese people. It starts with the mythological beginnings of ancient Japan and it continues down through to the beginning of what is historical Japan giving the tenants of Shintoism and Buddhism as they were introduced into the population. It tells of each of the emperors down through the time of the written history of Japan which can be documented. The later emperors felt that it was their duty to build Buddhist temples across the Japanese archipeligo. This book describes some of the temples which were being built across the archipelago of Japan in each of the districts of Japan for worship of Buddha.

A valuable bundle...
The Indus Valley Civilization was one of the world's earliest urban civilizations, flourishing around 2500 BCE in what is now modern-day Pakistan and northwest India. It was characterized by well-planned cities with sophisticated infrastructure, advanced drainage systems, and a system of writing that is yet to be fully deciphered. The civilization had a thriving trade network and is known for its craftsmanship in areas such as pottery, jewelry, and seals.China is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in the world, with a rich history spanning over thousands of years. It has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous dynasties, each contributing to its cultural, political, and artistic heritage. China is known for its great inventions such as papermaking, printing, gunpowder, and the compass. It also boasts a profound philosophical tradition with influential thinkers like Confucius and Laozi. Chinese art, literature, calligraphy, and cuisine are highly regarded worldwide.Japan has a unique and fascinating history, influenced by its geographic isolation and interactions with neighboring cultures. The country experienced a feudal period characterized by powerful samurai clans, followed by the unification under the Tokugawa shogunate in the 17th century. During the Meiji Restoration in the late 19th century, Japan embarked on rapid modernization and became a major industrial and military power. Japanese culture is known for its distinct art forms like haiku poetry, tea ceremonies, traditional theater (such as Noh and Kabuki), and delicate craftsmanship in pottery (like ceramics and porcelain).

Lots of information, Great read.
Ancient History Vol. 2: An Enthralling Guide to the Indus Valley Civilization, China, and Japan is a great resource of the history of the Indus Valley Civilization (between modern day Pakistan and India), China, and Japan. The book is easy to read and well written. The book is divided into 3 sections with 10, 19, and 16 chapters, respectively. The maps and artwork are a nice touch. I enjoyed the attention to detail but at a level that anyone could read. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to expand their knowledge of the Indus Valley Civilization, China, and Japan.

ancient history vol 2
This book is excellent, If you enjoy learning about ancient civilizations than this book will be a great addition to your library, I really enjoy the maps and illustrations and the writing style is easy to understand. What I like best about these books is that I can read a chapter a night to my 9 year old grand daughter and she enjoys and understands the book. It is not easy to find history books that both adults and children can enjoy together, but these books are amazing.
