Yes, the costume has more components than lamb and crook…but lamb and crook are the best part of the costume. Especially the real shepherd’s crook, built for real shepherds, and crafted of sweet chestnut. A beautiful work of art, and exactly what our little Bo-peep needed to complete her garb.

The review that says it is not for use with animals is completely wrong. The crook is precisely the right size and shape for snaring a goat's neck from over a yard away. I don't know Boer Goats - maybe they have really fat necks. Works fine for Nubians, alpines, la manchas. Staff is stiff and strong enough to then move a recalcitrant goat in the right direction. It works with a minimum of force - the goats obey the crozier now on sight! It doesn't hurt them, but they don't like being snared. Using it with the goats has given my wife (the Hay-giver) and I a whole new perspective on the religious symbolism of the crozier... Great product.

Good for herding and a walking stick

I needed a king cane to assist in walking. Looked for something about 8 inches longer than most walking canes. Bought this one, cut some off the botton off about 6 inches and it's perfect. It's really attractive, too

Purchased this as a (gag) gift for our church friend Dave. He is an older guy and very, very tall. His doctor has told him he should use a cane but he is stubborn. This was actually a perfect height for him (he is over 6 feet tall) and he used it that night to help him get up from a seated position. It was very sturdy. Sadly, he still isn't using a cable nor this shepherds hook. But at least he has it if he decides he really does need it. Good quality!

I needed a shepherd's crook for use with goats. Shopping on Amazon I found that most of the ones available are really stage props or walking sticks, but not designed for use with animals. This one appeared to be marked as a real animal herding crook. WRONG. It is well made, but the opening on the crook end is far to small to fit around the neck of an adult boer goat. I probably should have just returned it, but I'm going to try soaking the crook end in water for a few days to see if I can re-bend it to have a larger opening on the crook.If you want thing for a walking stick or a stage prop you may be happy with this one. If you are looking for a crook for farm use, this is NOT what you are looking for.
