Year 4 Update
This bag far exceeds expectations based on price. I've used this bag 5 days a week for over four years now, in all weather conditions. Never have I felt like it wasn't up to the task. I've attached two photos, one before, and one after a good wash with some saddle soap and then some leather conditioner. My only complaint is that the canvas liner is not durable in the slightest. But the leather is fine enough that I don't even think you even need the liner. It still functions as it's supposed to, and I'd definitely recommend it to someone looking for a durable bag that won't break the bank.

I like it so far. —UPDATED AFTER NEARLY 1 YEAR.
For the money, this is a reasonably well-built bookbag/briefcase. I like how it’s crafted, I enjoy the vintage look and feel (reminiscent of WWI-era military messenger bags), and I really appreciate its simple aesthetic — clean lines, straightforward, nothing fancy. I also prefer its dark green canvas lining, as opposed to the bright lime green on many similar bags. It’s far more manly and appropriate for my taste. My bookbag smells like leather should smell. I’d previously ordered a virtually identical bag from a different store on Amazon…which smelled like rotting meat with overtones of vomit gone sour. This bag was packaged with several desiccant packs inside, which undoubtedly helped it to smell good immediately.Surprises: no shoulder pad for the strap — the buckle sits directly atop my shoulder, so this is a problem. Easy fix, though: I’ll make a simple one from some spare leather I’ve got. My bookbag has a quick-release buckle on the front, though the photo showed a basic belt-buckle closure; I’m not sure yet how I like that. The leather was quite dry, though that was easily remedied by applying leather conditioner — and likely is a significant reason why it doesn’t smell sour like its predecessor. The strap is pretty thin, composed of 2 even thinner pieces of leather sewn together. I’m not confident it’ll hold much weight, which is tricky because this is a *book* bag for my purposes (I’m a pastor, counselor, and postgrad student). Since I’ve got some extra leather, I may just replace it; straps aren’t hard to make. We’ll see.All in all, I like it and hope it works well. For the price, I’m pleased for the most part.UPDATE—This little bag is surprisingly good. I made a shoulder strap pad and removed the clip-in buckle (its constant rattling was annoying); I also punched an extra hole in the shoulder strap so that 1) it’d get the buckle off my clavicle & 2) it’d be a more comfortable & practical length. I appreciate the layout of the bag & its functionality; the leather is aging reasonably well; & I expect to get at least another year (possibly 2??) out of it.I don’t understand the trend toward the clip-in quick-release buckles. It’s not an advancement, in my estimation.Keep the leather conditioned. All in all, I’m still pleased.

After having this bag for 3 years I have to write this review.
So.....I've literally never written a review for Amazon before but I value the input that people make. After having this bag for three years, it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. The fact that you can pay this little for quality leather material that has no worn out a single bit. This bag is only for some. When looking for a bag, I wanted something other than something that could carry a 15-inch or 16-inch laptop. Every day I have my Bible, my 13-inch iPad Pro with a Magic keyboard, a couple of pens, one charger brick, two charger cords to include my iPad and iPhone, and a wireless charger. On occurrences, I'll bring an extra book and random papers that I need.I am a church youth pastor and constantly lag this bag around. It allows me to talk at length with people without needing to put the bag down and go elsewhere because of its convenient size and weight. As stated earlier, this bag has traveled with me and has been my daily driver for years, and it still holds up.The only, and I mean the ONLY, negative comment is the clip. The clip has fallen off a couple of times, and I've had to reinstall it. Besides, you won't find a better bag if you are looking for a light, sturdy daily driver to lug around a 13-inch laptop or iPad and essential items. And it costs $38? It's a no brainer.

Great bag, actually leather, arrived a bit dry
I really enjoy this bag. It has plenty of compartments, fits my iPad Pro and several books just fine. If you're like me and you have pens, pencils, and highlighters you'll want to purchase some holders for them as there are plenty of compartments, but the compartments are all very deep, making it easy to get all those pens, pencils, and highlighters jumbled. I was very surprised that the bag is actually leather as advertised. However, it arrived and the leather was very dry. I had to purchase some oil in addition to the bag. Worth the extra $15 though because the bag is beautiful. Do yourself a favor and buy the bag and the oil at the same time. Because of the methods of shipping, it's probably easy for the leather to get dry in transit.
