SUCH A GREAT KATANA WITH A MIX OF TACTICAL ELEMENTS
Serious sword. I have been collecting Katanas for many years. I actually collect many styles and designs of swords that are always made for potential use and not just for great looking art. This is a very cool tactical sword that is basically a traditional katana but with a different handle and just a great feel. Even though I love the traditional wrapped and ray skin samurai sword; this is a textured very tight polymer hard thinner handle that has both pieces bolted tightly to the full tang steel blade. The steel is protected in an enhanced hard wood with a cool coated saya. Think of a very very long and powerful high end cutlery knife with a slight tempered curve. I love this hybrid design that could have been made with a kydex saya and be even more tactical. Instead the tsuba is more like a fixed blade knife that is not rounded but smaller and not ornate. The feel of this sword is awesome. I’m not certain of the exact alloy steel used; not a basic high carbon machete or Damascus either. I will check and include later. But it feels and is similar to a 440C type of stainless. I love the Cold Steel machete swords because the great use of traditional machete steel covered with a very strong coat of black military style protection for rust and more. But this is a super sharp stainless blade that is truly a tactical weapon. So I have paid more for some more traditional katanas with even blued Damascus steel and ornate elements. These swords are far more than great looking. They are beasts with the balance and perfection that is intrinsic to all fine katanas. But I really love this well priced hybrid. Certainly one of my first choices for sparring and slicing.

Amazing utilitarian katana for the price!
For the cost, this katana is absolutely amazing. It is non-traditional of course, but it is solid and very well made. The tsuka (handle) scales would be better if they were micarta, but they are solid polymer. The tsuba (hand guard) is very flimsy polymer and mine is loose, but this sword was around $150... I can forgive that, but only because of the price point. For the price of it I can’t believe the blade is really 1065 carbon that was clay tempered, but it appears to be, and whatever it actually is, it is very good steel and is RAZOR sharp (I was a knife maker and did my own heat treatment, so there is some experience here). If you don’t own a quality traditional katana, I would recommend you start with that, but if you can’t afford one, this is a high end utilitarian katana for very low relative cost. If you’re on the fence, go for it. You won’t regret it.

Great BLADE, rough handle, tiny gaurd
It swings well, quite sharp, full tang, and makes that noise you hear in Kung Fu movies when you do I nice even chop. For the price this is a wonderful weapon! You may have to wrap the handle yourself, I used old boot laces. The wrist strap can hit you in the face as you practice so tuck it, remove it, or adjust it. The guard is so small it will only stop your hand from sliding down on to the blade (more than some other Cold Steel products, I have 5), but if you were in combat it wouldnt save your knuckles from the enemy sword sliding down your blade. I do love the way it feels, but it is heavy, almost like a baseball bat, so be mindful!First target, of course the box it was delivered in!I was disappointed not to receive that to receive that seal of authenticity displayed in the picture, but I have renewed confidence in my chances against a zombie horde! This is my first Katana, and I'm overall quite pleased. The scabbard has a parachord glued to it and wrapped, I assume this is to tie it to a belt???Not for putting on your back, trust me don't try it! Slight rattle too, could fit more snug in the scabbard.

Bends easier than expected.
Mine came very sharp and the finish although far from perfect wasn’t horrible for what it cost. I have really put this sword through some punishment and it just takes it. My only complaint is that it bends out of shape fairly easily. It doesn’t take much to put it back straight, but I’m going to guess the steel is a 1045 and not the 1065 as published. Even so, it’s definitely battle ready and will take and give out a real beating.

Modern sword with a hint or tradition
Very well built and sharpened. This modern sword is beautiful and has a hint of tradition built into it. Very happy with the craftsmanship from the hadle to the blade. Will not be disappointed.

The katana you receive may not be what you think you're purchasing
The sword I received is not at all the sword from the photo, tho it's nice and sturdy and came with a display stand, it's not at all worth the price i paid, very dissapointed.
