Magic of MC Escher

Not only are the high quality prints great for an Escher appreciator, but it also has many draft sketches of the same pieces that Escher was working from - so you can see how he approached the geometries. An absolutely wonderful book.

Beautiful book

This is by far the best MC Escher book I have seen. It includes many color and b&w prints and large size folded panels, accompanied by studies showing the evolution of the work and excerpts from the artist’s journal. I love it.

Amazing book...M.C. Esher is one of our all-time favorite artist and this book is full of his best work...I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good art book!

We returned from the Netherlands, where we visited Escher's museum (in Den Haag) with my almost 7 year old. He was fascinated with his work, and continued talking about it and wanted to go back.When we got home I searched for a book that would contain plenty of images, and too a gamble with this book. Success! This is exactly what I was looking for. My son loves looking at the pictures, tries to copy some with tracing paper, and now is even making his own original work based on Escher.They also include some letters Escher wrote, which I find to be very interesting.

I have owned at least 7 Escher titles and have many of his prints but I enjoy the paper quality and the presentation in this one by far.Some of the other titles are also quite good in other ways, but for image quality I would recommend this without hesitation.

I like Eschers art. I have been adapting his ideas to my own artwork.

Like most people, I was familiar with Escher's famous "globe" and "staircase" woodcuts, but this book somewhat chronologically illustrates a broad scope of his work, from his early woodcuts of trees and Italian landscapes to intimate portraits of his aging parents. It also shows that his work was rooted in mathematical precision and obsession. The fold-out pages are wonderful and the method of identifying works on each page is easy to follow once you understand the methodology. As others have noted, the quotes from Escher himself enliven each page and illustration. A wonderful gift.

Very comprehensive coverage of the works of this unique artist. I particularly liked the inclusion of working drawings in addition to the more familiar images.Very large format that allows the large reproduction of images that brings them to life. Smashing!

Wonderful book with amazing pull-out sections showing the work of v nicely.

The most comprehensive coverage of his work that I have seen. Includes many of his working drawings and preliminary sketches, particularly of tessellations. Occasionally the layout of the book did not work. In some cases I would have preferred larger pictures of the whole work rather than have large pictures of details. The whole thing felt a bit disjointed.

I bought this book as a gift for a teacher - Escher is his favourite artist. The book is absolutely beautiful - a wonderful variety of pictures of his work, illustrations of early sketches and how he created his special style. A must buy for any Escher enthusiasts or students.
