Works great, but takes lots of elbow grease to install!
These are the first thing I’ve found that actually work to keep a rug from moving on carpet! We’ve bought SEVERAL products before this one and none kept the rug still. I have to say, the other reviews about them being difficult to install are correct. They are very hard to get into both rug and carpet thoroughly. If they are not pushed all the way in, they will be raised up and a tripping hazard. You will “feel” when they have actually gone all the way through and they sit flush with the rug too. Great product overall!

Doesn’t stay in place
Seemed great at first, but after about a week they kept slipping out and then you’d stub your toes on them and they would completely come out of the carpet. So expensive for what they are, I would be ok with the price if they continued to work.It is hard to get them in place initially, and then they don’t stay.I also think they look bad on your rug, I noticed them more than I would have liked to.

Not Perfect: but 3.5 yrs of proven dependability...and counting.
The GOOD: These pins are solidly holding 3 runner rugs in place in our living room (originally purchased/installed in mid-2020). All 10 original pins have been in place for 3 1/2 years so far. I got a new order to replace some that had their plastic plate broken. Low visibility profile. No more "drifting" of our rugs with these in use.The OKAY: If you are squeamish about putting some elbow grease into a DIY effort, or timid over something that *could* cause an injury if not handled and used properly, then these are not the product for you. The plastic plates are somewhat brittle, thus don't use a hammer to set them! You will need to use a bit of effort to insert these into place properly, and it may take a couple of readjustments during the process. It is best if you can get a good visual of how the pin is going to go in, how it changes direction twice during the installation, and where the rug will end up after you push the final step in. This can take a bit of effort. I have gotten the bare-hand method down now (I ordered extras in this recent 2024 order), but I almost opted for some thin yet sturdy work gloves just for oops-protection. If the plastic plate were to crack/break during installation, it could present an injury possibility. From a function and esthetic position, we found that if a plastic plate breaks, in most cases we will simply bust off the rest of the plate. The pins still hold the rug in place, but now are even less visible. A closer look from a less-than-casual observer will show what is there, but at that point, we don't care! If we need to remove such a pin, a pair of pliers (preferably needle-nosed) will work in extracting the pin. Over a long time, if you do not "rotate" the carpet, or move the pins to different locations, you can get a "scalloped" look or "pin pull" points on the carpet. The ones shown in my pictures are of no consequence for us, and we are just fine with them. The BAD: These are not a perfect solution for us but by far the most effective solution. Tapes and other friction enhancers have not worked on our rugs. That said, the plastic plates can break partially off if stepped on or kicked enough. This can leave sharp edges exposed that bare/socked feet will not appreciate. If you like the look of the plate in place, this can be an aesthetic issue for you. Additionally, the plates can be completely broken off, just leaving the pin in place; again a possible esthetic issue for some. If you insert the pins in at a large enough angle from parallel to each other, repeated attempts to use the pin can cause the pins (and thus the whole unit itself) to become useless.

disappointed
I bought these to keep a runner from scooting sideways. The runner is of course laid over carpet. I used carpet tape in the past, lots of carpet tape to keep the runner from moving. Runner is about 6 feet long. Thought I would try these as the idea seems sound and I do not have hardwood floors under my carpet so I did not have to worry about scratching. The carpet holders are not easy to install. I even greased them with silicon. I am not sure if I am even picking up the carpet pad when I insert them. Lots of pushing- need very good hand strength. They appear tight - three on a side. What happens is that the carpet scoots to the left and in a few days, the carpet pulls the rug pins out of the carpet. I am now using them with some carpet tape to see if that helps.

These really work!
We have a nice area rug over carpet in our great room. We had the rug to protect the off white carpet in a high-traffic area. The rug kept sliding and bunching up and drove us crazy as well as being a tripping hazard. We tried using furniture and doublestick tape to hold the rug in place and were not successful. After searching on Amazon, I found these rug holders. Success! No more sliding. A very inexpensive and easy solution!

Horrible Rug Pins
These were so difficult to push through. The one or two we were able to push in correctly held our rug in place BUT became dangerous the longer they were in place. The plastic top would stick up and we would stump our toes on it - AND it HURT!! Eventually, they worked loose and the metal pin part was becoming exposed. I removed them for fear of us possibly sticking the metal pin into our toes.

Great idea, but poor performance
Our wall-to-wall carpet has humps, bumps and lumps which I attribute to our robot vacuum cleaner. I bought a runner carpet to try to hide them. However the runner would not stay in place on the carpet, so I purchased rug pins in an attempt to solve the problem. I followed the instructions for installation of the rug settlers, but no success. I have tried inserting the settlers in the runner from the front, back and side direction, but they do not anchor my rug. Also, the clear head stays too far above the runner due to the height that is needed to hold the wire clip to the clear head and the thickness of the top of the clear head. The first time I ran over one of the rug pins in my mobility scooter the clear head broke.
