GQ GMC-500+ Plus Geiger Counter Nuclear Radiation Detector Dosimeter Dual Tube Data Logging

I find this to be a good choice for a Geiger counter because as you can see from the picture, it has two Geiger Mueller tubes (inside the two vented areas on the back.)This gives it better accuracy and a far greater count range than most instruments in its class.The display is bright and easy to read. There are many formats to the display that you can select from.I checked it for accuracy against a small sample and the readings were good.With software that you download, you can load the history of reading into your computer or upload them to various websites.The package comes with a carrying case.I am very pleased with this purchase. And I am pretty sure I like it more than I would most competing options even within the brand.

I got this not only for an (hope to God never happens) emergency, but also for scientific purposes to check items for radiation for fun. Examples, like batteries to bananas. It's a well designed device and well thought out in terms of what it can do. I believe every household should have a Geiger counter in their home preparedness kit. I test it every 4-6 months and make sure it's in proper working order. I am thinking of getting another one to keep it running for the GMC Map. I like the unit a lot, and would recommend it to anyone who needs a good Geiger counter.

I spent hours looking on Amazon for a reliable Geiger counter, knowing absolutely nothing about them. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars. The first thing I would do is look at the negative ratings. If there said the device would never turn on, or was a magnitude of 10 off the correct rating, it went in the proverbial trash bin! The only device that looked good was reviewed by those who seem to know what they are doing, and it has only 4 and 5 stars--which is a rarity on Amazon! We got this in three days, set it up, and went all over checking the readings against the card that comes with it to see how our house rated, in various places. You could test food and drink, and yourself, I guess, at various times. We did not use the Wi-Fi option, as it is indeed too "nerdy" for us, but, hey, nerds may appreciate it! I have recommended this particular device to a number of my friends.

This is my second GMC 500+ Geiger counter. These instruments are certainly feature-rich for the $$ and perform as advertised, being able to detect harder beta and gamma/x-ray radiations in a compact, shirt-pocket sized box. Outwardly they seem hardy as well, but for some reason after a couple of years my first unit mysteriously quit detecting radiation! The customer service at GQ electronics appears a little difficult to deal with - there seems to be no repair service. Apparently they expect you to just replace an instrument that has gone awry - which for the cost probably makes sense. I had my unit stored under ideal conditions, and the tubes were not overexposed to radiation, so there is no reason why they should have crapped out - but after extensive testing, it would appear that was what happened. Anyway, I actually DO endorse this instrument if you are looking for a feature rich (recording/logging, graphical, WiFi capable, remote internet monitoring, long internal rechargeable/external power source - need I go on?) radiation detector for an unbelieveably low price. I just hope I get more than a couple of years of shelf life out of it!

In these crazy times it is well worth it to get one. It is accurate and dependable. Functions well and is easy to use.

This is my second gmc-500+ I like them so much I decided to order another one and I have a 320+V5 and a few other Geiger counters but this one is my favorite I love it works just as good as the other one thanks you GQ Electronics and Amazon

The enclosure is a bit on the fragile side but for indoor use, it's fine.Setting up WiFi connectivity with a long password is tedious stepping through characters, but it works.
