If You're Happy and You Know It (Raffi Songs to Read)

My youngest child's favorite book is a board book of The Wheels On The Bus by Raffi so I bought this book for her thinking she might enjoy it, too. She doesn't. This book has a completely different style of illustrations than in The Wheels On The Bus. It is a board book, so that's nice. But I don't like Raffi's modified song lyrics (i.e.: "If you're bananas and you know it") so I don't sing it as written in the book. It isn't as fun as TWOTB and the pictures aren't as pretty; there isn't as much to look at. In almost every way it's an inferior book to Raffi's TWOTB. If it wasn't a hassle to return it, I'd return this one.

We love Raffi songs and this book is very cute! My daughter loves when I sing to her more than when I read to her, so it's nice to be able to show her the pictures and "introduce" her to reading books, but still be able to sing. We especially love Raffi's inclusion of bananas. =)

I love singing stories to my elementary students in music class. Over time, the students learn the tunes as well and sing with me. They enjoy visuals which is why the thought of musical "story time" is usually a success for me. I love adding the motions into this as well as creating new words and motions with the students!

The lyrics in this books are as follows :If you're happy and you know it, clap your handsIf you're bananas and you know it, let it ring, ding-a-ling!If you're beautiful and you know it, shout hoorayIt reads like they were trying to avoid having to pay song royalties so they changed the words or something. So many extra syllables crammed in and you can't even act them out. Very awkward to read. My son can't read yet so we just sing the original lyrics. Bizarre. Not happy (and I know it!).

Our 11 month daughter LOVES this book! We sing it to her several times every day....and now she "reads" it to herself.

Another Fun Book to read or sing to your kids by Raffi. I read this to them over, and over, and over- great way for them to have it memorized, or for beginning to read.

If you grew up with Raffi you are going to love these books. Love the colours. It's a classic. The ending is slightly different than the song but no big deal. Has a birthday theme to the illustrations even though the song is not. It's perfect for my nephew's first birthday.
