When I first received the American Crafts Sweetshop Meringue Powder, I was excited as on the product bag it touts that it is "perfect for royal icing, meringue cookies, pavlovas, angel food cakes and more!" Sadly, my excitement would be incredibly short lived. On the bag itself it provides an in-depth recipe for royal icing. I figured ok, on the manufacturer website there would be recipes for the meringue cookies, pavlovas, angel food cakes, and more! Yep, there is nothing. When looking at the manufacturer page for the meringue powder itself, it states, "...allows you to create 12 delicate meringues that are perfect for any occasion. Simply add water and sugar, and follow the straightforward instructions on the packaging for flawless results every time." Now that is just plain mocking at this point because even the bag on the product page shows the identical royal icing recipe that I have. The description continues, "Ideal for making meringue cookies, pie toppings, or even pavlovas, this gluten free option ensures that everyone can enjoy your creations." Well they could if the manufacturer actually provided some recipes. I went online and learned that not all meringue powders contain identical ingredients. Thus, I had to do even more in depth research to find a competitor's meringue powder that contains close ingredients so when I used their recipes, I would have ended up with a positive result. I soon learned that all of their major competitors provide recipes for multiple treats using meringue powder. They even provided measurements for meringue powder and water which would be equivalent for one egg white. Did American Crafts Sweetshop do this? Nope. At the time this review was written, they only had a single recipe for royal icing. If you are only planning on making royal icing, this is great. However, if you want to make anything outside of royal icing - you are on your own. This is a huge opportunity to share why your product is great and provide guidance. Even on the manufacturer's social media pages they show delightful images of what can be made...with NO RECIPES! This was the first time that I thought I could actually try using meringue powder instead of using actual egg whites to create meringue cookies or pavlovas. Unfortunately if you are a first time user of meringue powder as I am, this was simply infuriating. Thankfully a major baking company did not let me down. I used their recipe and was able to create large meringue discs for impressive individual desserts. The meringue powder whipped up beautifully to create impressive stiff peaks. I was able to pipe the meringue easily and created lovely discs with no weeping. The finished results were light with a crispy exterior and a chewy, marshmallow like interior. It was delightful. There are about 65 servings per resealable bag with each 1 tablespoon serving containing 25 Calories, 0g Total Fat, 5g Total Carbohydrate, and 1g Protein. The ingredients used to make this meringue powder are recognizable and pronounceable including corn starch, sugar, egg whites, cream of tartar, gum arabic, and natural flavor. The manufacturer stated that the product is packed in a facility that processes peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, milk, eggs, sesame and soy. If you have a food allergy to any or all of these foods, please be aware. It is Made in the USA with domestic and foreign ingredients. The product that I received has a best by date of 22 months from the date that I received it. Overall, this meringue powder created delicious results. However, a purchaser of the product should not have to work this hard to find recipes that they can make with this powder. I really hope that the manufacturer will add recipes to their website using the meringue powder in a variety of ways as they advertise to showcase the myriad of desserts that this powder can create.

I haven’t used it yet but upon opening, I discovered it had a puncture in the bag and the contents were all over the packaging. Not super excited to have lost a lot of product.
