Lonely Planet 100 Weekends in Europe ;An attractive , chunky coffee table book with snapshot info and pictures ,inspiring ideas and destinations for short trips around Europe .As ever with Lonely Planet , there’s ‘must sees’ , suggestions for food and entertainment ,travel options and interesting local facts.Simple maps are included along with an index map of Europe for all the destinations you will find in the book.Restaurants , stations , airports, etc are all mentioned but not specific timetables or costs ,meaning the book will not outdate too quickly.Lovely to flick through and great inspiration to visit some of our lovely European towns and cities . It would make a lovely gift.

Great guide for inspirations on short breaks in Europe
Lonely Planet 100 Weekends in Europe is a well-organized travel guidebook grouping the destinations into countries in Southern, Western, Central and Northern Europe. If you are thinking of spending a weekend in a place in Italy, the book will give you a straightforward idea. I appreciate the book covers not only well-known cities but also lesser-known places that we had never considered before. When it comes to the details of a specific destination, you may find it lack depth. But this books is mainly aimed to provide a variety of destinations and creative ideas for weekend getaways. You can always find more detailed information about those destinations elsewhere.

Interesting ideas, lovely coffee table book
Lovely coffee table book with the quality you would expect from Lonely Planet. Nice pictures and punchy layout offering a snap shot of 100 different places to visit in Europe. Sadly this is a very brief overview with approximately 4 pages dedicated to each place it appears half of this is large pictures so only, at most, 2 pages (or a few paragraphs) to each location. That said, true of Lonely Planet publications, each section offers interesting snippets of 'must see' or unique facts about an area, some fun 'off the beaten track' ideas not just mainstream tourism. If you are looking for weekend break ideas this book is a good conversation starter but if you are looking for holiday structure and specific information this probably isn't the book for you.

Coffee Table Travel Inspirations
TLDR - if a flip through this doesn’t give you an idea for a getaway then you are doing it wrongPriced at £19.97 when I was reviewing when I was writing this review this really is one for the coffee table or similar rather than packing it tightly on a shelf. Measuring just under 24 cm tall, 19 cm wide and 3 cm thick this book with its rigid but soft back cover is a hefty (1.2kg+) tome full of inspirational photos and travel highlights that will get you checking your leave and researching the budget airlines quickly. It is designed so you can dip into the book which is divided into Southern, Western, Central/Eastern and Northern Europe each packed with a number of weekend ideas. Each weekend is over 4 pages (I think as I haven’t browsed the whole book) and is split into an introduction 4 or 5 ideas of a paragraph or so, a more time bit with a couple more short ideas and practicalities (how to get there, where to stay and eat and events). This alongside the photos that whet your appetite.Ideas are wide ranging Taste.., marvel at, hike in, soak up, stroll, discover and so on. These are short and too the point and only cover key highlights. It is only to browse, whet your appetite and then delve on line etc for more info.As I said a great coffee table book designed for dipping into for ideas and inspiration. Beautifully photographed and covering the whole of Europe this is a great book to have if you like to travel and are handy for Europe.
