This sauce is great, its a decent substitute for various kinds of sauces starting from soy to worcestershire sauce and fish sauce, of course it doesn't have the exact same flavours as those but its useful in a crunch to impart a similar unami type flavour to food. It's a pretty nice tasting sauce in it's own right though, and seems to be quite widely used across southeast asia.
