They did all the standard upgrades so you don't have to
The OMTech K40+ (Plus is important) is not the cheapest K40 around. But this is because its packed with a bunch of features you'd otherwise have to sort for yourself if you bought one of the cheaper models:-Upgraded GRBL compatible control board so you can use Lightburn right out of the box.-Contact sensors that prevent the laser from firing when the lid or collection tray is open-Honeycomb bed.-Adjustible height lens so you can get the correct focal point without having to raise or lower the bed.-Included led light so you can see your progress-Height-adjustable feet to level the machine- Other options I've surely forgot to mentionIf I had to ding the machine for something, it would be the positioning of the collection drawer contact sensor. If the collection drawer is out even by a hair, the laser will refuse to fire and you may not know why. I wasted quite a bit of time trying to troubleshoot my laser not firing without any feedback that the answer was very simple, nudge the drawer in a bit. I can foresee a situation where vibration could also lead to it sliding out in the middle of a job. As long as you know about it, its not that bad of an issue.

Updated
The media could not be loaded. Upon unboxing, the corner was dented, which I could have overlooked. My issue was, when "test firing" the laser, there was arching coming off of the tube to the frame of the machine. Called their customer support, was told no techs were available, so I'm waiting for a call back, I also, contacted the seller about my concerns, through Amazon Pictures included and video of it arching.I will update my review after they get back to me.Update 3/19/2025I received a call from OMTech support, they offered to replace the whole machine or send a new laser tube, I Opted for a replacement laser tube, since the seller on Amazon offered a $50 refund for the damaged corner.I will update again once the new laser tube comes and verify it all works.Final update 3/27/2025I received my new laser tube, installed it and the machine started working. The customer service was available every step of the way and helpful. The machine works now and I'm happy. After confirming it was good to go, I added my own air assist, since the one it comes with is loud and weak. I also removed the exhaust fan, since I have my own exhaust for my other lasers and tied it into my existing exhaust system.I did a couple quick tests on acrylic, glass and wood, this machine excels on glass. Removing the laser pointer used to visually see where it's going to cut/etch gives you a little more work area with it on, it gets in the way of the listed work area, the laser is pretty useless as it is, since you have to readjust it everytime you move the focal point. I'll end up moving the laser back, but with a better mounting attachment to the laser head so it doesn't get in the way. There is a lot of videos on YouTube and forums for alignment of the mirrors, it will take a few tries to get everything finely tuned, but it is worth it in the end. This machine is fast, and if you're coming from a diode laser it's night and day difference.I set the milliamps dial to max and control the power in lightburn you get better results this way, 70% power in lightburn with the dial on the machine all the way up, gets you to a peak of 18mA, I will ultimately do tests to get the results I want to get it in the 14-16mA range or less, so to put less wear on the laser tube.Customer service was on the better side of experiences when comparing customer service with other experiences with differentcompanies, they always were polite, helpful and available. A+ on the customer service. B on overall experience on my purchase.I have updated my rating from a 1 star to a 4 star, subtracted 1 star for the initial issues. After all is said and done, I would recommend this machine, as well as the company since they stand behind their product.

Did come with rotarty
Arrived well packaged, had a slight issue but omtech fixed it without delay. Pleased so far. My unit did come with a rotary despite what another review said. It was packaged separately to keep it from thrashing during shipping and the UPS driver left the packages in different locations

Gift for my daughter
I got this as a gift for my daughter she makes leather bags, belts, dog armor to keep hawks coyotes off smaller dogs. She played with it for a few days using wood till she got it right for leather, now she can engrave on her leather products, she even found a use for it with her scrap leather she engraves small pictures or sayings on the scape adds a pin used for hat pins on the back and they are so cute. She said it does have a learning curve but was not hard to learn, and she is thrilled with it.

This is not for the faint of heart.
Mad Skills most definitely required. I knew going in that the assembly of these was shoddy at best but....wow. Out of the box the X axis was nearly unmovable. Had to remove the gantry entirely, disassemble it, unwarp it and then reassemble it just to gain movement. The Y axis bearing is horribly noisy and unlikely to last long. Plenty of stripped screws had to be replaced with better hardware. The red dot laser was not wired in....the ends were barely just pushed into a connector and fell out as soon as it was touched. The inside of the cabinet was dirty as are the mirrors and lens. Hopefully the tube is fine...going to be a bit of work to get this to the point of ven applying power. If you love fixing things, redesigning things and wondering how any of this can pass any quality assurance process then this is your baby.Edit: After several days of checking all connectors, repairing those found to be poorly crimped, etc., repairing the most glaring issue of no proper ground, replacing most of the screws on the gantry and mirror, reinstalling both temp meters because they fell out and aligning the mirrors it actually runs. I was able to confirm it is operational, laptop and k40 Whisperer can indeed control it.So in a nut shell....be prepared to rebuild this unit. It's a good parts kit, the case is good, tube is fine. Electrically dangerous until properly modified but....it will cut and engrave with a little work. You should be comfortable with soldering, mechanical skills, electrical skills and have a Macgyver Engineering degree.
