From executive producer Robert Rodriguez comes the first season of the original El Rey Network series, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, swooping onto Blu-ray and DVD, featuring all 10 Season One episodes, including episodes directed by Rodriguez and Eduardo Sanchez(The Blair Witch Project). This supernatural series, based on Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 1996 cult classic film of the same name (starring George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Salma Hayek and Tarantino), centers on bank robbers Seth and Richie Gecko, who are wanted by the authorities after a heist leaves several dead. Escaping across the Mexican border with a family of hostages, the Gecko brothers take a detour to a strip club that's populated by bloodsucking creatures of the night.

deep inside from dusk till dawn
I love the movie. I seen the movie a dozen times on the BiG screen. I had a feeling because of the times we live in they were gonna metro sexual the series up, take something raw n gritty and shine it up all hoity toity slick like and they did to some degree but they kept it gruff enuff and go deep behind what motivates all the characters and by the end of episode one I wanted to see what they were gonna reinvent next and what they were gonna do straight from the film. as I write this I've seen the first six episodes and I feel much like with the movie it's not really gonna start till they end up at the titty twister. the cast is likable, D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz do a really good job as the Gecko Brothers, and the story is a layer deeper than the movies storyline. so far I like it.

Amazing!
We've been looking for a way to watch this since we read about it in People magazine. It airs on the El Rey network which isn't available in our area. THRILLED to find it on amazon. We bought the pilot episode and we were HOOKED. Hubby had seen the movies--I had not. It pleases BOTH of us. The Gecko brothers are both believable as professional thieves, and Richie (played by Zane Holtz) is simply brilliant as a troubled, vision-seeing, semi-sociopath. Every character is believable (with the exception of Jake Busey--who always seems to play a caricature). We binged all the available episodes in 3 days and would highly recommend it for fans of "thinking-man's-horror." (no mindless slashing) The stylized format of flashbacks is done seamlessly and provides ongoing surprises and fleshes out the characters. Try it--you'll like it!

Eliza Gonzales does a fine job honoring Salma Hayek as Santanico
Stretches the movie into a ten hour series, adding all sorts of mythology and scares. Nobody can match George Clooney's malevolent charm, but DJ Cotrona holds his own in this version of Seth Gecko. Zane Holtz as Ritchi plays it a bit less manbaby crazy than Tarantino, but here the character is less batshit and more... well, you'll just have to watch. Eliza Gonzales does a fine job honoring Salma Hayek as Santanico, who this time is given a backstory that plays out well across this and the second season. Lots of blood, lots of quirks, but maybe a little less time hoping without establishing the time. The audience just has to pay attention; you're rewarded. Great turns from Jesse Garcia as a Texas Ranger hunting the Geckos and Wilmer Valderrama *yes, from that 70s show) as a villain. Totally nails it. Don Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and Jeff Faehy sneak in here too.

Good standalone show, inspired by the movie.
One of the greatest challenges of any show based on a movie is how true they are to the original but at the same time stand alone on its own. This show does both of these very well. There are a couple of scenes that are almost right out of the movie, but this time they've re-imagined them and focused on a different point of view. For example: Richard Geko (played by Quentin Tarantino in the movie and Zane Holtz in the show) is still a crazed sociopath. The show takes that in a slightly different direction: is he being influenced by others or is it all in his head? In the movie it was simply: kill, kill, kill. I'm only two episodes in, but so far I like the direction it's going in.

Awesome series!
Even though the series is based on the 'From Dusk till Dawn' movie, it's much more than that...there are still the memorable scenes from the movie, but character development/background is greatly expanded. A lot of things from the movie is explained with additional subplots added--including Richie and the Fuller family. The actors who portray the Gecko brothers, both bring life to Richie and Seth. I would highly recommend watching this series. The first four episodes are directed by Robert Rodriguez. And they are a tightly wound, fun and wild romp. There are a little details that greatly add to the show. Check out this show! Even though it's based on a movie, it's one of the most "original" shows on T.V. now.

not a long enough series.
This has been renewed but most of us had to buy the eps online because it was NOT shown on Dish. This series is basically remaking the modern horror classic , "from dusk till dawn' and doing it in long drawn out way. The first 35 or forty minutes of the movie are now stretched over six episodes. And we just get to the good part when the series ends! . The part where the female vamp is dancing and soon they will all turn to vamps. In the series we have more characters because we have more time. The movie was full out riot and remains a horror favorite from the 90's for many. This is a decent version of it But if you might want to wait till the next season to watch it all together as the next six eps will redo the wild second half of the original movie.

Good story. Good acting
Very unique. Good story. Good acting. Was very surprised when "Fez" from "That 70's Show" was a bad guy. Didn't think he could pull that off, but he actually did a great job. I like the use of flashbacks or even going back and restarting a scene you just watched, but from a different person's perspective. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Eliza Gonzalez is unbelievably smokin' hot. I was surprised I've never heard of her before. Also, there are at least parts of this that have that Quentin Tarantino "in-your-face" style with explosive impacts and lots of gore.

Bleeping Awesome!
I am a huge Rodriguez/Tarantino fan and I love the original film so when I knew this was being made I salivated like Pavlov's good doggy. Lemme tell ya, the show does not suck! Among the cast, Zane Holtz stands out as Richie, adding a quieter and all the more creepier, crazier demeanor to Tarantino's original character. The writing is top notch and you can definitely feel the Rodriguez flavor all over it, because there is difference between chicken tinga and chicken mole; and you definitely DON'T sauce the sauce!Great show. I am anxious to see where they take it with the second season.
