The Beat Sessions

Sound is pretty good considering the source. Lots of energy from the band. They were definitely at their fastest during this period compared to later live releases. The voice of Paul DiAnno fits these songs perfectly and Clive Burr is solid as a rock. Phantom of the Opera sounds brilliant.

Top class performance from the Dianno incarnation of the band. Good sound quality and a blistering set. If your a fan buy it defo worth adding to the collection.

The band and vocalist are in very good form here and the sound quality is also very good – generally.This could be said to be a recording for the absolute completist because when they tried to play ‘Remember Tomorrow’ a high-pitched sound interfered before they had even completed two minutes of the song. This then caused a delay of about two and a half minutes before the problem had been sorted out and they could replay the song again. As far as the average listener is concerned, I am sure that this interlude would have been best left out and the concert would then have proceeded smoothly without anyone being aware of this hiatus, which does nothing to improve one’s listening pleasure.However, apart from this odd inclusion, the overall effect of this broadcast is one of the band being on top form and is well worth a listen for anyone who liked Maiden at this stage of their career.Also, for some unexplained reason they did two takes of ‘Sanctuary’, even though the first as track 10 did not sound as though there was any problem with it and the second version as track 15 did not vary in any significant way from the first.All in all, though, a very good live recording and well worth a listen.Playing time is 65 ¼ mins.

You never know what the sound is going to be like on these cd's but this is ok for what is a soundtrack of a TV show. The whole show is here with track 5 Remember Tomorrow being played twice as the sound cuts out on the first attempt. Nice to have even if the sound is a little flat. Worth buying.
