The Best Motherboard For Milan
This board has everything you need for a home server. It has PCI-E 4.0, two 10Gb LAN ports, USB 3.0, IPMI and an onboard SAS RAID controller. It came with BIOS 2.4 out of the box so my Milan processor was instantly recognised.I am running an Epyc 7713 with 256GB Crucial DDR4 2666MHz ECC RAM. I am running an Nvidia RTX A4000 and an Intel X710-DA2. I have four 16TB WD SAS Ultrastars running in RAID 10 via the onboard RAID controller along with two 14TB WD Red Pros in RAID 1 via TrueNAS and a 2TB Crucial T500 as a boot drive.Things to watch out for is to avoid M.2 drives with heat sinks. I was supposed to have two Crucial T500's, but they won't fit because they are so close together. The adjacent motherboard heatsink is also in the way. They also interfere with putting expansion cards in because of the height. I barely got both my cards in. Luckily I don't plan on adding anything else.Make sure to purchase the proper cables if you plan to use SAS. This board does not include any SAS cables. It also only comes with SATA 3 cables. Luckily I had SATA 6 cables laying around. This motherboard also lacks an integrated TPM module. If you are planning on running Windows 11 Pro with Hyper-V and Docker, you need to purchase one separately. Windows 11 is fully supported and runs flawlessly. The integrated 10Gb LAN ports came in handy for Hyper-V. For some reason, Windows/Hyper-V didn't want to share my Intel X710-DA2 with my virtual machines. I assigned one of these ports to act as the Virtual LAN port and everything runs without any issues.I am using the stock Supermicro CPU cooler. The Noctuas do not fit without interfering with the adjacent RAM slots or the ability to close your side panel. The Supermicro cooler is also oriented properly for proper airflow. All the hardware, RAM and drives are fully recognised and working. I know the Supermicro's could be quite picky with hardware, at least in the past. This board is absolutely packed full of features. It is the top of the line for the H12SSL series. No shortage of features whatsoever. I would highly recommend for both the Rome and Milan Epycs. Just remember that this is a different animal when compared to your average consumer board.

Good so far
This board is working great for the 24-core 7003 series Epyc we’re using. 512gb of 3200MHz ram.I’m surprised with the amount of features available with it being just an ATX size. 10Gbase-t, PCIe 4.0, m.2, sas controller, etc.The onboard management/ipmi is a big step up from our older x10 series boards. Bios updates can be done from the web management page instead of having to boot from a usb stick which is a welcome upgrade from our older systems.I would prefer to have a newer raid chipset onboard though. This one has the SAS3008 series which is pretty dated and it wouldn’t recognize a raid 10 array I created on a newer controller. I had hoped to move the boot drives from an expansion card to this onboard controller but that didn’t work out. I ended up using the jumper to disable it and will revisit in the future.
