Reasonable introduction
Having been to China several times and heard people playing these on the streets and in Chinese opera houses, I HAD to have this when it popped up. It's a beautiful sounding and simple instrument if you have a good ear, some musical experience, and/or a lot of patience in lieu thereof.I've never actually had one in my hands and cannot make a comparison to better instruments. This one has a reasonable sound. It's not terribly rich likely because of the synthetic soundboard but it is perfectly adequate for learning. There are a lot of plastic components on this version, and that's fine at this price point. It will get my by while I learn my way around this instrument. I have been a multi-instrumentalist for over five decades. It shouldn't take TOO long, I hope.I don't have enough experience with erhus to know if it this one is built well enough to not hamper learning efforts. I know that many would be guitarists never became guitarists because the instrument they were learning on was poor quality and setup badly.I can't see how such a simply built instrument could possibly hamper my efforts but again, I don't know enough.Intonation is vitally important, especially on an instrument with no frets. The base of the relative intonation is the tuning of the open strings. This one is difficult to get tuned spot on. I have the kind of ear that can't handle bad intonation. I'm a little concerned that since there are no fine tuners for the strings for use after the strings are pretty close to pitch, that I might adjust my learning of where the positions are on this erhu, to account for the "sharpness" or "flatness" of the open strings.I suspect it will be fine and as usual, I'm just overthinking it. All in all, it is a passable instrument and should suffice to get me to the place where I am ready for something better sometime in the future if I decide to pursue it further.

Nice beginner erhu
I really like this beginner's erhu. I'm a fiddle player and wanted to try playing the erhu and I am impressed that this instrument came almost ready to play right out of the box. The erhu came fully assembled so I didn't have to fool around setting the bridge or rosining the bow. Plus it was tuned very close to correct pitch when I got it, I just had to fine-tune it a bit. There was a handy instruction sheet inside the box. I was able to figure out how to play a one-octave D-major scale right away, and I can play a few tunes on it even though I've only had it for two days. I just wish it had a modest case or gig-bag to carry it in, but the instrument is great fun.
