Monopoly - through a purple haze...
Though this would make a novel and rather thrilling gift for any Hendrix fan, this particular one's going nowhere. I put out hints about Monopoly's Bowie Edition in the past that fell on stony ground but as someone who loves Hendrix too, I'm ecstatic to have this.I especially like the playing pieces - the hat, boots, medallion and so on. This is that same Monopoly you known and love - but with an arguably greater resonance for some of us than the streets of London. The thing about icons of cool - particularly if their lives are tragically cut short but not exclusively so - is that they remain just that. Cool. From Robert Johnson through to Amy Winehouse and beyond, they have a resonance that's not only bound to their musical output but also to sheer force of personality -and an apparent will to keep compromise to a minimum. Not only this, musical icons so often seem to mirror their period better than the competition so, with this Monopoly, the late '60s as well as Hendrix - who had fought in Vietnam unlike our homegrown rock stars - is brought strongly to the forefront of our consciousness. So, place that well chosen platter on the Dansette - Electric Ladyland mayhap - and settle down for Monopoly with a twist. And if Monopoly seems a little materialistic under these circumstances, though it's still empire-building there's kind of less of an acquisitive edge with this variant that's suitable for 2-6 players.

Jimitastic
I've been a fan of Jimi Hendrix since I was a kid. I grew up on punk, metal and electronica, but I soon noticed that many of the rock and metal guitarists I was into (Joe Satriani, Uli Jon Roth, Ritchie Blackmore and a long list of others) cited Jimi as a massive influence. This prompted me to check out Jimi's music... and nothing was ever the same again. Those sounds blew my mind. They still do, every time I listen to them or even think of them.I'm a completist when it comes to Jimi's music, so when I saw the Hendrix-themed Monopoly set I had to have it, for novelty value if nothing else. The idea of a Jimi Monopoly game seems somewhat paradoxical - the man was all about art, sound, peace, love and expression, not materialism or profiteering. Not in the real world anyway. But in games it was different. In an interview with Billboard magazine, Jimi's sister Jani revealed that when her brother came home from tours, "He liked to play Monopoly - he loved to be the little shoe, and he would buy up all the slum properties and gradually put motels and hotels on them. And he was out for blood; he wanted to win." The title of that interview was 'Jimi Hendrix Played Monopoly to Win, Says Sister'. With that in mind, it's fitting that a Hendrix-themed Monopoly game has been produced. I wonder what Jimi would make of it. I suspect he'd be tickled by the whole thing, but a bit mystified at the manufacturer's missed chance to make one of the tokens a little metal Fender Stratocaster guitar (more on that later in the review). The traditional Monopoly pieces (tokens) have been replaced by 6 Jimi-related metal icons: (1) Jimi's famous fringed boots; (2) his trademark hat; (3) a rolled-up guitar strap; (4) a sacred medallion; (5) a ring; (6) the car. For me, handling these little tokens (especially the hat and the boots) is somewhat of a spiritual experience - like listening to Jimi's music, it's a way of getting in touch with the man himself. The manufacturer missed a trick by not making one of the tokens a little metal version of Jimi's upside-down left-hand-strung Fender Stratocaster. That would have been fantastic. The aesthetic of the Hendrix Monopoly money is glorious - retro numericals and appropriate images: album covers, vinyl records, cassette tapes, concert tickets (Monterey Festival, where Jimi stunned the hippie crowd by humping his guitar amp then setting his guitar on fire and smashing it to pieces). The places on the board feature iconic pictures - some colour, some black and white - of Jimi and his band. Each place is a location where they either played live shows or recorded. One trick the manufacturer didn't miss is making some of the properties red houses. Very cool. In the game there are many other tips o' the hat to Jimi's life and career, but I'm not going to outline them all here, as it would spoil the surprise for fellow Hendrix fans. I've not yet played the game with a bunch of friends but I'm certain it'll go down a storm in the right company (Jimi enthusiasts) when I do.

Great
Would make great gift for a fan. This is classic game but jazzed up a bit. Of course as expected it is great quality and everything stores away neatly in its own box. Fun family game or collectors item.

Rock 'n' Roll Fun for All Ages
The Jimi Hendrix Monopoly Board Game is a nostalgic journey through the music legend's iconic albums. As a fan of both Monopoly and Hendrix, I found this game to be a delightful experience. The game's concept, where you advance to Band of Gypsys, Electric Ladyland, and Axis Bold as Love, adds a unique twist to the classic Monopoly gameplay. It's a great way to relive Hendrix's musical journey while expanding your empire and trading your way to victory. While the game is enjoyable for players aged 8 and up, I found that some younger players might need a bit of guidance to fully appreciate the Hendrix theme. Overall, it's a fantastic gift for Hendrix enthusiasts and a fun way to introduce younger generations to his legendary music and the world of Monopoly.

Jimi Hendrix Monopoly Board
I have always been a lover of Monopoly boards and I have a nice collection of different themed Monopoly boards.Give me a nice packing and the quality is good. However, I feel like the quality of money notes and other pieces could have been better but that goes across the board for monopoly boards and games. The boards are usually always of okay quality and the rest of the items are sort of affect acceptable quality.Anyway, would recommend it as fun for the whole family.

Great board game and collectors item
If you love or know of Jimi Hendrix this is the game for you. It's lovely quality with cute player pieces, the board featuring a walk through Jimi's music. It's the same game you know and love with a rock and roll twist. I see this game both as a nostalgic bit of fun and a collectors piece. Great version of the game and could make a great gift x
