A great purchase!
For ages I have searched and bought battery testers which only needed one hand to use them, because I now have only a little use in fingers of one hand. Only two had moulded bodies to hold batteries of then differing sizes and those measured only with bars or a needle. Then I found this gem. Pricey after what I’ve spent on the others, but such great value and really good.I read in one review tgat the 9volt internal battery (supplied) was was a tight fit and someone else said there us no switch to save having to replace it regularly. I’m mystified by that because I see no reason why it should be draining all the time when not in use, but I bought in readiness some Velcro straps and put one under the battery to be able to pull it out with that strap. I must say I don’t think the battery would have been a tight fit since the two thicknesses of velcro - one either side of the battery - fitted snugly, so there was just room for that, and also I used not the battery supplied but a rechargeable one, which are usually a tiny bit bigger than non-rechargeable one’s in case it does drain. We will see but why should it?The tester itself is sturdy, the instructions well written and I thought clear and the packaging friendly, the two parts separating once the sellotape was cut. All in all a great purchase! I just wish I’d seen it before buying all those other ones....

A useful device
Having lots of different connection points for the various types of cell makes the thing quite large but also makes it quick and easy to test a cell without needing to adjust anything. It reads cell charge and voltage quickly and so it takes very little time to check a set of cells if a device isn't working properly. It is quite expensive so on purely economic grounds it is difficult to justify unless you use a fair number of cells, but it does save waste if it is just one cell in a set that is failing and avoids loss of power if you do a quick check in advance of using a device.

I'm not sure this has really helped me
I have recently been finding batteries have seemingly been a bit unreliable so I thought I would try and weed out any that were no longer useable and keep the good ones. I bought this tester as I already have an Ansmann charger which charges 16 batteries at a time and I thought it would be a reliable product. I have found however that I get extremely varied results. I hesitate to say unreliable as I don't know if batteries are capable of giving off the same reading every time. For example, I test a battery and get 100%, the next test seconds later I get 10%! That to me is not very useful at all! I do not know however if that is the battery at fault or just a normal occurrence with reading the power left in a battery. Whether it is the tester or the battery, it is very frustrating. It does the same thing on new NIMH batteries I have just bought too.So in conclusion I don't really know whether to recommend this product and have given it 4 stars as it is well made and does measure voltage as well as supports a lot of battery types. I'm just not sure if it is functioning as it should.

Expensive, but worth the money
Very good battery condition checker - expensive, but versatile and I've found it extremely useful for weeding out suspect batteries. I did find the method for testing cylindrical batteries (AA, AAA etc) slightly counter-intuitive, though i.e. you have to place the positive terminal of the battery on the tester's terminal, whereas I was expecting to put the battery "right-side up" on the tester. But maybe my brain is wired upside down ;-)This top-of-the-range version has been an excellent buy for me - so much easier to use than its cheaper Energy Check (sans LCD) stablemate: Ansmann Energy Check Battery Tester, which I found quite irritating at times (AAA batteries are tricky to fit properly in the tester, and the sliding mechanism gets stuck sometimes, although I might have had a faulty unit).

wire plastic coating is cheap plastic that crumbles
The main battery tester is fine, and useful, but within 5 years the plastic coating in the spiral wire became rigid and brittle, and crumbled badly, exposing the wire in multiple places.A pity. It's a simple material flaw for an otherwise great tester.

Love this very versatile tester
I found out about this tester as they had one at work and I thought it was really good, no fiddling trying to insert batteries into holders and clips like many others I've seen which makes it really quick and easy to use and it seems very accurate. It has a lot of different options for all kinds of batteries which is also rare to get a single tester that can test such a wide range of batteries. The indication is simple and clear and it's sturdy and well made. I was taking my batteries to work to test and decided it's time I bought my own as I do find I have a need to test batteries quite often.

Measures the battery capacity (how much charge it can hold) as well as the voltage
I have just bought another one of these for my son.Works really well. Often you find a battery that has the right voltage (which most simple testers show) but the capacity is low. So either the battery needs more charging, or discharging followed by recharging or the battery is nearing the end of its life.An excellent tool and simple to use and understand. It can measure lots of different types of battery which is a plus.

Unit supplied faulty...
Although the tester appears to be working correctly when testing brand new batteries, the "self test" button reports that the internal battery is low. At first I thought that the internal battery had degraded with age while in storage at the warehouse, but got the same result after replacing with a new battery. Unfortunately this means that it is not possible to put any trust in the tester so I shall be returning it.
