Great Purchase
I have a Strike Alert unit so was very excited to purchase the HD. Am I ever glad I did! It's awesome! I ordered one and a few days after it came, I was out hiking in the mountains and it started to rain. The sky looked as if there would be lightning and sure enough, off went my HD that was in my backpack! I actually pulled it out of my backpack to watch how this unit worked and the histogram is great! It was super to see it track the storm. I know we are hitting the end of our thunderstorm season now, so Ill be putting the unit away shortly but will be excited to get an entire thunderstorm season out of it next summer. Also, a kuddo's to the company and the use tips that are on the box for us! When I saw the tab, I figured that was how I would need to put the batteries in. However, in reading the tip, it explained not to pull the tab but to rotate it and grip the cover. I'm pretty sure if I would not have read that tip that I would have broken the tab. And, to take the batteries out when storing the unit and its not in use? Great tip! That will provide longer battery life as well as resetting the unit every time I put them in. This is definitely the unit for those of us that are out and about a lot!

It works well, but it lacks the direction of the strike - with that it would merit 5 stars. Also, the detection of the strike seems to be influenced not only by distance, but by the strenght of the strike itsef. It gives accurately the approaching of the strikes that always are part of thunderstorms, so it give you a precise idea of thunderstorms approaching. If used in combination of other means of observation of precipitation, sat images, weather charts, etc, it becames a very helpuful tool.

No complaints. Been using it at cross country practices. Seems very accurate. Haven't had to call practice yet, but it's let us know we need to be paying attention. Friends told me to use the Weatherbug Spark app. I compared the 2 at home during a lightning storm. This device gives instant notification, while the app is delayed. Plus I don't have to worry about my phone dying. Batteries last a long time.

Not so much
Thought I upgraded when I went to this from the personal strike detector, but was wrong. The graphics are cartoonish and it didn't really tell me more about what I needed (how far the lightning was away from the soccer field) than the personal Strike Alert. I'm going back to the little one.

Good lightning performance but battery hog
Item does function well, Unit is bright and easy to find but is a battery hog so bring extra replacements or rechargeable batteries on your trips.

very accurate and a great product.
Battery indicator falsely reads low batteries when they are no where near used up. This is a factory defect in all their units and some day they will fix it. Meanwhile, just take the batteries out once a day then put them back in for more accurate battery levels. Other than that, very accurate and a great product.
