A quality mitre saw
Nice and compact, plenty of cutting power. It appears to be very well made and given how lethal these things could be, it has appropriate safety features. The shadow alignment system works well in subdued light but if you are using it outdoors in bright sunshine then forget it.

Totally fine for DIY
What I really like about this saw is that because it slides into itself like a trombone it takes up less space and even more so because it stores tilted to 45 degrees. It's also really easy to calibrate to make sure that the cutting angle is correct and the system is robust enough to hold the angle once set. The way you get a shadow of the blade to indicate where the cut will be is a nice touch. On the negative side it does not cut very wide (ie the max width of a plank that you can put in it is not very big) and because the slide is not fixed and therefore not parallel to the deck you can't adjust the depth of cut (on my old machine I could choose to not cut all the way through which was really handy for making parallel cuts that could then be chiseled out to form a groove for a joint. I do miss this feature.

My first mitre saw - a great start
Probably in common with a lot of people during lockdown, I decided to have a go at being productive and making something. That led me to this DeWalt mitre saw - and it turns out to have been a great purchase! It feels like it’ll last for decades of home use.I wanted to make some outdoor furniture, some planters and maybe a play deck for the kids. Did I need DeWalt? No. But the enjoyment of using a quality tool like this makes it worth the investment for me. Plus I know it’ll have resale value if the hobby is short-lived!The saw feels absolutely bullet proof and has a good range of features. There’s nothing I feel it is missing, as a beginner, anyway. The fact it is a sliding saw really helps give a bit more width to the cuts. I think for a beginner the slightly smaller blade which can slide is a good balance - it stops it feeling overwhelming/scary! It cut through a series of 4x2 planks like butter and the dust extraction port is surprisingly effective, even if I’ve not got it connected to anything. My only criticism is that the calibration was a bit off out of the box, with cuts not being right angles. I don’t know how hard this is to set up in the factory, or if it loses it during shipping, but not having the gear to calibrate it at home is a bit of a pain. Through a combination of a speed square and a bit of trial and error, I think I got there though. It’s certainly good enough for my purposes now.My only other observation is that you really should use ear protection with this. I know it always says so in the manual, but I thought I’d be ok cutting outside. Well after a day of chopping for my first chair I had a night of ringing in my ears. It was short lived though - I bought some ear defenders the next day and no problems since! All in, I highly recommend this as a beginners saw, even though cheaper makes are out there. I can’t comment for more advanced or professional use.

good for most uses but shadow line is invisible
The saw is good for intended purpose, it has good power to deal with all types of materials. For the price I would really expect it to tilt both to the right and left but it only goes to the left. The shadow line is completely invisible in daylight, if you use it outside ensure you put a scribe where you need to cut. It is a nice little saw if you move around a lot, it is light enough to carry and will tackle most onsite jobs with ease, limited to the size of cut obviously. The blade it comes with is sufficient for most jobs around the home All in all I'm pleased with the purchase and would recommend this for D.I.Y or for jobs where quick cuts of small width timber is necessary,

Not cheap ... but worth it
As a newcomer to woodworking I asked several online groups, and read many reviews, and eventually settled on the DeWalt 774 as the mitre saw to go for, and nothing I've seen since has changed my mind - it's accurate, powerful, has good dust collection, and overall is just a superior product. The "ShadowLine" feature is also superb, in that instead of "laser" line drawing (which isn't laser and usually cannot be seen in sunlight) the saw uses a shadow of its actual blade to throw an accurate line of where it intends to cut, and it's never wrong or out of line. Tremendous accuracy as a result. In all respects it's just about flawless, although I would suggest reading the manual and maybe watching an online video if you're new to mitre saws, or even modern mitre saws. In all respects that count this saw is superb and the pricing isn't as bad as you'd think.

Quality piece of kit
I had an evolution rage sliding mitre saw which was fine but difficult to set up for accurate cuts. Thought it was time for a decent brand so was a toss up between bosch and dewalt. I saw this which was a returned item although I didn't realise it when I ordered it just before xmas (wondered why it was so cheap!). I almost cancelled the order but thought I would see what it was like first. It came double boxed as the original box had damage however the saw obviously had not been used as it was in pristine condition and everything was included.I ordered a set of Saxton finer tooth blades (40 and 80 teeth) which give a nice clean cut. I have the saw fitted to a Titan mitre saw stand (only £45 from Screwfix) and it's perfect for my needs. I'm cladding my staircase in solid oak so wanted a decent saw for cutting and this was accurate straight out of the box.Overall very happy. I bought the saw for £168 and it was delivered 2 days before Xmas. It's now £295 on Amazon so also a bargain!
